Great for the rally car look! And if you dont clean often can be a great chance to start new rust on your car.

mudflaps not a good idea as they just cause rust which you could do without

I quite liked them on mine, but its lowered 35mm and every speed bump catches on them, so i removed the front ones to find one was hiding dreaded tin worm!!

They do attract the rot im affaid,
they save sooo much crap going along the sides of your car, i definitely have them fitted. i removed them, cleaned thoroughly all round (inc. behind the wheel arch liners/mud traps!), cleaned, "back-to-blacked" them, then refitted them. i like the look of them too.

Unless you remove them occassionally and give everything a good clean! They do look good and keep the car slightly cleaner, especially when you live out of cities or built up areas.wiledw wrote:rust trap bottom line!
Also can stop the odd little stop from flying up and scratching a door! Happened on the parents Alfa... not nice...

I love E30s from that angle. Sorry only one i have where you can see the flaps...
Make a difference in my opinion, but if people are calling them rot worm food then just take em off every 2 months or whatever and check and clean around there... sound.

ok apreciate all the comments, but by the looks of it i may just give a miss, dont need anymore rust issues as it is...
Mine are staying on - the amount of crap that ends up on the side of the car without them is substantial. I found this thread because 1 or two of mine have lost their bolts and were hanging loose. I need some new ones can i get them separately - I assume so - I don't wash the car every week like some. I hear what you guys are saying about the rush concerns - a lot of crap can build up around the bolts. Speed humps are a pain too, especially when the flaps are brand new. To avoid all the dirt, scratches and sticky tarmac - I say on...
Can i just add - that they have to be the BMW molded ones that look the part not some universal jobby that doesn't sit right!
Didn't realise how passionate i was about mud flaps

I like mine as they were on the car originally and that's the look I am after. Never had any rust issues and they definitely offer a little protection from stone chips, etc. The rear passengers one is slightly shorter though, due to years of entering my steep driveway
Are you talking about "BMW" marked ones cause Jay07 is quite right

I do agree they have to be the genuine article; moulded and BMW embossed. Any others just look so council
My 323 has them on and will stay on - the 320 I would love to get a set F&R but have yet to locate a decent set 2nd hand.
Regular cleaning will prevent the onset of damage and the subsequent rust as small debris does get trapped between the moulding and the paint work if used regularly.
