daily commute and eventually 2 or 3 trackdays per year or so.

I have my eyes set on a 3.46 open diff is that a wise choice? considering I have a non-sport gearbox, live in a country where the rain season lasts for 4 months no snow but I do like to push my cars especially in the midrange.

So is that wise enough?

oh btw Happy New Year to you all

My E34 535iSE readily lost traction with an open diff (3.64:1), so pretty skittish on an E30 I imagine...

what would you guys recommend without losing mid range punch and the low revs grunt of the M30 (I couldn't care less for top speed I have a bike for that ;))?

I'm running a 3.46 open diff and was told this was the most suitable. So far its drivable in first, second and so on.
Takes of no probs, but will def spin in first 2 gears in damp conditions, but you'll soon get used to it.
Round town is good, and motorway driving is excellent, 70mph @ about 2000 rpm which is lazy, and geared to suppose, thiugh my cab roof might fly off by then.dly do 162mph
Some higher diffs are no good for first gear, so you have to resort to using 2nd all the time.

main thing... make sure it's not a small case diff! :D

I have a 3.91 open on mine at the moment. this is too short geared really. ideally you want a 3.46 or 3.64 LSD.

for track use, with my suspension setup giving me a lot of rear end grip, having a open diff made little difference on my trips to the ring last year. certainly no spinning an inside rear wheel exiting corners etc.

with the slimy conditions at the moment though, i would like an LSD. It's a pain to get it moving out of T junctions in a hurry without making plumes of smoke! winkeye
