James, if your intake temps are too high, given the large frontal area the IC occupies I strongly suggest a larger turbo( compressor and turbine A/R ) at least.

if the existing GT30 is out of it efficient range,it will just pump heat, nothing you add downstrem will affect the charge temp to a great extent.

have you measured temps before and after the IC ?

one day I'll make the BBB meet and come kick your tyres dude :thumb:

ive only looked at the inlet temps on the laptop during mapping, was up to 60degrees most of thr time and shot up as soon as it went over 1.4 bar,
im thinking about a bigger turbo but this one still seems to have more to give? small increases in boost are making big differences in power, the engine really responds well, the intercooler has got a large frontal area but its only 40mm thick and some of the flow is restricted by the bumper,
also the airfilter needs movin as its pulling in hot air from the engine.

what turbo would u suggest? probably a holset! winkeye

James,

I spoke to a GURU of all things e30 M50 turbo, he said "clearly 451 bhp is borderline on most GT30 compressors as they usually have only a 53 mm compressor inducer. As an example a Holset HX35 usually has a 55 mm inducer, and probably performs better still due to most GT30s are sold with single entry turbines and no map width enhancement in the compressor housing inlet."

So it's time to.....

Fit one of them Holsets baby!

Will pop over one night and sort through them with you :D

ah mate.... that looks beautiful... certainly doesn't look out of place under that bonnet ether and i love how someone is still willing to put time and effort into a conversion like this, i love turbo's, especially the sound of a dump valve but since i had my 'polo g40' i'v bin thinking more along the lines of a supercharger conversion for my e30 318is, its actually got a '96 compaque' engine init which i think is the same as the original 'is' lump (correct me if i'm wrong) but i'm still unsure wat conversion to do, if you don't mind me asking wat kind of cost has your conversion cost you mate? bearing in mind i'm a mechanic by trade and i'll do the conversion myself....
