Could be your shocks or it could be the top mounts. Just replaced the the ones on my touring and its a completely different car to drive. I went for mounts from an E46 cab as they are the same fitment but last longer. Less that 30 squid for a pair from BMW

Catch hold of the shocker under the wheelarch, and see if the top moves around. If it does, the top mount is shot.
Bit of a hassle to change in the touring, because the load compartment side panels and the rear seat belt reels have to come out.
Don't attempt to undo the shocker top nut in situ. Just undo the two 13mm nuts at the top and the 19mm bottom damper bolt, and the two will come out (and go back in) together.

Not too bad to do though - it took me less than an hour and a half to do both - I surprised myself!!
