Hello people,

A few of you may remember me from a post about a hit and run accident between my E30 and a rather large Audi Q7, any ways to cut a long story short I’m now claiming of the other blokes insurance as we managed to track him down and I’m currently driving a 2008 Ford Mondeo.

The car its self it shite but it got me thinking about doing a diesel engine conversion to an e30 but quite a new diesel engine from say a late 90’s 3 series. Modern diesel lumps seem to have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years.

I’ve driven the new golf and passat TDi’s and there really amazing all things considered but unfortunately these are modern vehicles with no character which is why I’m considering a modern diesel lump in the iconic E30.

What my options engine wise? And what problems could I face?
I’m hoping to find one that will drop right in and be at least a 2.0 at return around 35mpg

Oh and by the way a few pics of my late E30 before and after it hit the Q7 RIP

Never really get very interested in oilburning engines, but BMW did do a diesel (324d) but not available in the UK. E36 onward diesels became available.I would imagine that your initial problems will come from getting the thing to run,you will need to be an expert auto electrician or need to be good mate's with one...may well be easier and possibly cheaper to fit something like an M50 and go LPG,well documented engine swap and well documented fueling, and the stuff is cheap to buy as well as burning far cleaner than derv.....

Ive seen a 3.0ltr diesel lump from a 330d in an E30 that was a match for an e46 m3 but i dont know how you could do it with respect of putting the engine and all the ansils from a diesel into a petrol car!
also 330d's are "Fly by wire" with the throttle pedal so i dont know how youd get round that!
Im a great fan of diesel ever since i bought an Octavia Tdi and had it re mapped it would leave any standard E30 for dead so a 330 conversion on an E30 would be fantastic

Sounds like it would be a major pain in the arse shame because a modern diesel lump would go like stink in a little E30.
The old diesel engine don’t interest me as there just not in the same league as the new breed of diesels, looks like I’ll have to stick to the trusty 325 engine, but i bet even with an LPG conversion he MPG still wont be as generous as a diesel lump.

Performance aside diesels seem to put the fun back in to motoring you can just go for a drive without having to worry about how much fuel your using and because modern diesels lumps are far from slow they don’t take away too much from the drivability side of things either

occasionaly i have the use of my mum's 54 plate polo tdi sport ( 100bhp model with red "di" badge on bootlid) which is a right laugh to drive and economical with it too. plus its quicker than my 325i touring and has more toys. only wrongness being that its driven from the wrong end...

We had few letters of the number plate, and just went all over Leicester looking for the car, I thought to my self there cant be many black Audi Q7's with the same few letters on the plate and a fuck off big dent in the side.

Turned out the muppet was still driving the car and we found it outside the factory where he worked, the guys face was a picture!

Still once the insurance claim has been sorted I’m gonna go and give the guy a good kicking, for all he knows he could have killed me so I aint gonna let that lie

I couldn’t the police were present at the time besides if i beat him before i got my pay out I’m sure it would have some sort of effect on my claim.

As the old saying goes revenge is a dish best served cold, i now know where the guy works and where he lives so I’m just waiting now

Sounds like a plan, wont be on the road for a couple of months though got a few bits i need to sort out first.

Biggest job is a new D/S front wing but it also needs a new exhaust system.

Where do you meet?

Nice one fella.

At least you found the gimp.

There is was a thread on a oil burner going onto an e30 although I have not looked for it.
It can be done and with a newish lump would have bag's of touque.

Get the pic's up of the 4 pot wrongness.....

I've gone off the idea of a DRV lump now hense why i've gone for a 318is.

The M42 lump does seem quite nice, dont get me wrong i would love a 325 lump but there gonna be really heavy on the juice besides a few choice engine mods and i should be able to get around 160bhp which would see me just right.

For me the E30 is all about the retro style i've loved E30's ever since i was a little kid.
