m40 to m10 conversion

pretty much as the title says, how easy is it to swap an m40 1.8 for an m10 carb engine, i know i need to use the m10 gearbox, but what else do i need to do

Quality mate you know it makes sence!

They have different radiators, engine management is different as well

I'm not sure but a m40 gear box may fit an m10....

i dont think i can use the m40 'box as its 5 speed and m10 'boxes are 4 speed, but i cant see that making a difference

just checked the etk, they look identical

most m10's actaully have 5sp boxes. only really early ones have 4. Never heard of anyone actually having one though....

Oh all the gearbox's on the ETK "look" identical...even m20 ones. But the part number for m10 and m40s are the same,

normal m20's 260

trued doing them m40 to m10 a few years ago swped everything engine lom as well and blew the ecu maincar looms are different and it proved to much work to sort it so broke the phase 2 car and i replaced my carb to the injection m10

Just interested why anyone would want to swap what is a newer designed engine for an older one?

I'm speaking as a retro enthusiast with an M10 - are they considered to be better than the M40???

Generally yes they are! M40's have the dreaded hydralic valve's which tick and are expensive to repaire. Generally m40's don't seam to be so stong in the long run as m10s

M10 are also a hell of a lot better to tune than m40's. It was the same m10 block in F1 turbo cars of the 80's that made 1400bhp!
