320is is tucked up in it's garage in Germany - I need to get some pics up here (and of the 325i!).
I'll let you know when I'm back, I'll probably be getting the tunnel!

Well I had planned to go to Munich today to visit the BMW factory and BMW World (and of course get loads of pics for you guys), but there was a little bit of snow overnight.....

Seriously this was just in a few hours last night! Didn't go to Munich in the end, but fear not, I'll manage in the next few days!

awesome keep the pics coming
i did a little trip this year from London straight through France, to Interlaken (Switzerland) then we were supposed to go down to Lake Garda but i broke my car having a play with about 7 Porsche's round one of the mountain/lake passes, so had to stay a couple of extra days waiting for the part i needed to be couriered over from home,
then once i got it fitted it we got stuck on our way to Brig by a village fire
and the only road through the mountains was blocked, but after that on our way round we did drive through the cloud's over 2000ft (which was very surreal) up from there via the Simplon pass went down through Italy followed the riviera all the way to St Tropez,
i did it in my modded Civic but who cares the roads/scenery etc was spectacular and i cant wait to do it next year, and all going well it'll be in an e36 M3
keep the pics coming and enjoy yourself Mind the Italian police though they seemed a bit offended by my car and pulled me at the border

Sounds like you had a nightmare of a trip! I think I've been quite lucky so far - touch wood!
Cool pics and good on you mate for using the car properly.
My next door neighbour bought 1 in march and has only done about 1500 miles in it. Just sits up his path like a big ornament.
I've even tried to get him to do a driftday or trackday with me but all he goes on about is wearing the tyres.
Take it easy mate.

Have you got winter tyres on for the trip then?
Sure do mate. Check out the first pics and the last ones and you'll see the difference - I much prefer the summer tyres on 19 in wheels, as opposed to run flat winter tyres on 18s. But they are much better in the snow - even if they did cost 1600 Euros (and that's with discount...)
More pics on the way - stand by for the most amazing museum imaginable!

Well as I said, I visited the BMW Museum and BMW Welt last week. I wanted to do a factory tour, but these stopped for the winter a few weeks ago so I had to make do with taking some pics outside....

The employees' entrance...

And the factory at Garching, just off the A9 Autobahn towards Frankfurt. It's just next to the Allianz Arena (which I think is Bayern Munich's stadium - football fans I'm sure will know!!!) which is the brightly lit thing you can see in this (very) blurry pic!

Here they are - some of the most famous Munich landmarks, and a sight to behold for any BMW fan - the vierzilinder building, and the museum:

This one is of BMW Welt, which is the showcase for all brand new BMWs - you can even collect your new car from here! Highlights for me were an M5 Touring, and a 760LI Individual- just amazing! Just to the left of this building accross the road is the 1972 Olympic stadium, as well as the Athlete's Village:

So now to the important stuff
:
These cars were all as mint as a big box of extra minty mints:
Late 60's 02:

E21:

Mega cool 1970's display:

Check out how clean the undersides are:

E3 3.3 LI - One of the coolest BMWs of all time in my opinion. I used to have a 1972 3.0 SI in Ceylon gold - I regret selling it SO much!:

When BMW launched the Mobile Tradion concept, they wanted to prove that they could supply pretty much anything for classic BMW's. So they built this Inca orange 02 FROM SCRATCH on the production line, then put it in the museum:

So now for the M Car display - I was a bit dissapointed at this bit, as it was quite small in comparison. But, the cars were amazing! Even the discs looked brand new, and the brake calipers that Ii looked at all had that yellowy/gold anodsed finish they have when they're new...

I doubt there's any scuttle panel rust on this one....

This E28 M5 was just stunning - I want one!!:

The shine off the wheels on this E24 was just amazing:

You could have eaten your dinner of one of these (although if you tried you'd probably get taken away and shot!):

Now for the really awesome stuff:
E9 3.0 CSL Batmobile race engine:

Batmobile 'Art Car':

This E9 3.0 CSL Touring car was just amazing. All around the Motorsport room, there were loads of videos of footage from the ETCC from the 70's, including some truly terrifying footage of Hans Stuck powersliding and drifting a Batmobile at full chat around the 'ring. Truly awesome:

Check the width of these rims

This has got to be my favourite - a Bigazzi team E30 M3 DTM Touring Car from I think the 1991 season. I want one!

This was prety crazy too - Marc Surer's Gr 5 E21 racer - massive spoilers!:

M3 GTR:

And current WTCC car:

WOW! Great pics mate, I love that M5 and 635. I have got to get myself over there next year to check them cars out.
The newer cars don't really intrest me, i appreciate what they are but the older cars just have more appeal.

Awesome pics
Question though: How was the drive with the e92 m3, was it comfortable all the way, or did you get a bit restless after being seated for a long time??

No I don't think you're being stupid mate! I hunted high and low for all E30's (obviously!) and the only ones were the red Sprt Evo and the DTM car. Perhaps the pics of the red chromie (which is just gorgeous!) was from before the museum was refurbished? I know that a lot of the display cars have been changed over.Ollie_bwoii wrote:This one:

Actually it wasn't too bad. Not as good on a long journey as the 335d coupe I had last year (which is easily the best car I've ever had), but it was comfortable and not as hard work as you'd think.madaboutthe30 wrote:Awesome pics

Sadly the winter tyres mean I'm restricted to 210 kph so I'll leave the Porsche baiting till the spring

As they say, all good things must come to an end....

I don't think thats BMWs car. Thats a clean one that they found and used for a dealer display. Possibly when the current 3 series was launched a couple years back
Good pics btw. I will suggest the DTM is a 92 judging from the writing on the wall though

Fair one, although I find it really well laid out and comfortable. But then I suppose we're all used to an E30's layout, with everything angled towards you!
Having said that, if the worst criticism of a 420 bhp. 4 litre V8 Porsche destroyer that people can come up with is that the dash is a little bland, then I'm not really that fussed!

If I had the money (and therefore the choice!), I'd go for the Porsche without a doubt. As good as the M3 is (and it is awesome), I think the GT3 RS would be out of this world!
