What? Because I don't think an old rusty shell that has been rotting for the last 12 years is worth is worth £XXXX?bss325i wrote:You do talk some shit dont you?!Joshy wrote:The Shell means **** all on a e30 m3. .

The problem is you are wrong Joshy, your 'too the point' opinions would be welcome if they were correct and came from someone who is old enough to drive a car.Joshy wrote:What? These shells are worth a fair amount of money, rightly or wrongly.
You said the shell means **** and that the engine is the thing that makes the M3 special!Joshy wrote:What? BMW didn't make the revisions to the standard shell for nothing!
Even if it is rusty it still has a value considerably higher than a standard shell.
My head is far from up my own arse chump.

I'm obviously not going to win you over to my point of you. Revised shell or not, It's my personal opinion that the engine is what made the E30 special and without it, the shell is worth the square route of fuck all Agree, disagree, I don't actually care. Just don't resort to childish name calling and snide comments that I received from some members of this board simply because I don't conform with the "OMFG, IT'S AN M3 SHELL, It must be saved Q_Q" mode of thought.bss325i wrote:You said the shell means **** and that the engine is the thing that makes the M3 special!Joshy wrote:What? ding ding...round 2
. this is making for very depressing reading. some of these people don't particularly want the car in question, they just "get off" on knowing that they have something that other people want quite keenly. even if it means letting it rot into the ground.

but the shell is worth a few grand, maybe not to you because your not wanting one so your confusing your opinion with fact. on the open market a couple of £G's for a rusty old shell seems to be fair money and theres no doubting that.if i could pick up an m3 shell for fook all i would have one by now with a cossie engine in it.
How do you know? Maybe they want to restore it at a later date, or perhaps give leave it to their son when he's older etc etc.adit wrote:ding ding...round 2. this is making for very depressing reading. some of these people don't particularly want the car in question, they just "get off" on knowing that they have something that other people want quite keenly. even if it means letting it rot into the ground.

There's is almost certainly a reason why someone would let a car get into a state like that, and even more of a reason why they won't sell it on. I very much doubt the guy is holding onto it just to piss people off, particularly when some zoners seem like they'd be quite happy to pay him several grand for his bare rot boxadit wrote:ding ding...round 2. this is making for very depressing reading. some of these people don't particularly want the car in question, they just "get off" on knowing that they have something that other people want quite keenly. even if it means letting it rot into the ground.

I'm banking on him being an enthusiast just like you guys who intends on restoring it himself someday.

would it be less of a hanging offence if i used a restored rusty shell rather than b4st4rdising a decent runner?Rosc0PColtrane wrote:That would be awesome!!fuzzy wrote:but the shell is worth a few grand, maybe not to you because your not wanting one so your confusing your opinion with fact. on the open market a couple of £G's for a rusty old shell seems to be fair money and theres no doubting that.if i could pick up an m3 shell for fook all i would have one by now with a cossie engine in it.

If this is you reaction to somebody who has a differing opinion to that of yourself, I think you might need to reconsider for a second just which one of us is the "little boy".
My initial opinion still remains, it isn't nearly as much as a "Sad site" as some members have made out - It is a empty rotting carcass devoid of any life. All the goodies that were once attach are long gone, hopefully to keep many more M3s on the road, and now the shell is worthless, not in a literal sense by being measured by money, but in a "spiritual" sense. The "heart" of that car has long gone, so all that rests there now is a piece of metal.
If you don't agree with me then that's absolutely fine, just don't retort to that nine year old "OMFG, it's still better than your old Touring lololololol" willy waving crap.

Bastardise whatever is more cost effective. Plenty of M3s about. Wont hurt to frag another. Restoring and painting a rusty shell may cost as much as a non-runner with a straight shell.fuzzy wrote:would it be less of a hanging offence if i used a restored rusty shell rather than b4st4rdising a decent runner?Rosc0PColtrane wrote:That would be awesome!!fuzzy wrote:but the shell is worth a few grand, maybe not to you because your not wanting one so your confusing your opinion with fact. on the open market a couple of £G's for a rusty old shell seems to be fair money and theres no doubting that.if i could pick up an m3 shell for fook all i would have one by now with a cossie engine in it.

What's that CS model that was in some of the photos? Never seen it before - will look it up I think. My ideal classic BMW's always been the 3.0CSL, but I quite like the look of that one... what year etc is it from and what was it?

By making statements ike "the shell means **** all" without explaining why, you leave yourself wide open to flack for talking crap.
Sadly this is where you show either ignorance in general or just a lack of knowledge - you choose which.Joshy wrote: It is a empty rotting carcass devoid of any life.
It's the remnants of a Sport Evo of which very few were made, and BMW are not making any more. It's a piece of junk for sure, but a piece of junk with value. A mint example is worth £20-25'000 and the values are only going one way.
I wouldn't be interested in it per se, but someone with a lot more talent than you could do something with it - either restore it back to standard after hunting down the correct parts, or build a superb track car.
But if you say it's junk, so be it. How many Sport Evos have you owned again? Remind me!

not that many around and they arent making anymore.
its not like a regular 2 door shell where you can go on ebay and find 100+ for sale at any given time.

another thread that has gone of the rails!
who would have thought that a rusty old M3 shed could cause so much controversy !!
the bloody thing isn't even for sale !
I seem to remember a blue rotten M3 shell on ebay a few months back (the link was in the ebay section of the forum )
it sold for little under 500 ? what makes this any more desirable ?

I wonder what the ratio of Shells Vs Engines is?
A shell is only worth something to someone with an engine - well wth a few exceptions of course. Don't mean much by it, just a first thought..
..but these things were designed for the track where damage is part of the drill.

There most definately be more engines about than shells!skipunda wrote:I wonder what the ratio of Shells Vs Engines is?
