just been thinking and i'd want a pool under that convertible hood!!!!
being realistic,
why dont you build a 4pot screamer? maybe get a 318iS, put it on steelies and compound charge it (supercharger and turbocharger)
basically create a rat ride, so car could have primer etc on it, but be so fast it tears stuff up??
moreover means you satisfy the urge for FI without turboing the m5lump

3.0 twin turbo diesel from the new 5 series in an e30
the 5 series does 0-60 in 6.7 secs
imagine that in an e30
560 Nm of torque

hmm my seg just sayd "nobody does it like Sjoerd"

seems to be a fair amount of call for a tourer with a V12, with maybe a couple of blowers on it.
with or without the blowers it would be a bit thirsty though!!
what about a 2 door with a 3.5 and a blower?

What about doing something a bit different that sticking something big in an e30?
Something like this: http://www.twinturbov8.com/index.html
The Giocattolo (italian for toy) was an Alfa Romeo Sprint 1.5L front wheel drive ultra light hatch. They took stock alfa sprints and ripped the guts out, changed the chasis, and then dropped a 5.0L V8 Austalian engine into the back seat, making it a mid engine, rear wheel monster. Ultra lightweight, great centre of weight positioning, and the ability to say to people "I bet you cant find the engine".
Alot of work in mounting something big in a 2 door e30, but definately could be done. Lightweight, powerfull as sin, and the mid mounted engine would really change the handling. A "Spielzeug" (toy in German). Maybe it has already been done?
This particular dude twin tubod a 5.7 V8 in his toy, puting out over 1000hp to the rear. At a drag race, they had an event that was a reverse race, where the cars drove from the far end back to the crowd, into a concrete wall. The idea was accerate and then decelerate at the end, kind of a who pussies out first loses thing. The Judge hit the wall at 200+ and was burned alive by the front mounted fuel tank.
An e30 might have better luck

Hows about a turbo'd 325ix touring? Either M20 based or maybe use the later 2.5 from an E34 525ix as a basis for something with a bit more poke? Could go Impreza bashing then.....
