My E36 has recently started playing up when I'm attempting to lock it. First of all it took a few attempts to lock and now has got to the point where it won't lock with the key in either the driver or passenger door. The key simply doesn't turn in the lock. Locking it from the boot works though.

Anyone else had anything similar? Possible solutions?

Cheers!

Several years ago my E28 played up just like this.I stripped the door trim and lock, then applied a large quantity of WD40 to all the moving bits and all the stationary bits as well.Discovered that several stationary bits should have been moving bits....once they started to play properly the key lock worked again.

Have you sprayed anything into the lock yet? If maintained (a squirt of WD40 once a year) E36 locks should never play up

Its had a spraying of WD40 and spray grease. Looks like it'll be coming apart!

my e36 central locking was playing up when i bought the car, about six months ago. i've been driving around with no door cards, or boot lid/offside carpets or glove box for months! oh and the key doesn't fit the passenger lock :banghead: will sort it one day (E30s permitting) winkeye
