Just buying a 325 with m50 conversion, the lad says the manifold rubs on the body on full lock, is this common and hows it sorted?
What do i look out for on the m50 conversion?
Also its a standard engine what are the easiest power mods? Thanks Ty

It rubs on a brakebooster. The solution dependt on what intake it has. The one with the ribs or the one withoutones. Maby you could solve problem with lifting engine on one side by lets say 0,5cm.

Hi & welcome, good choice sir
I'm in the middle of an M50 swap at the mo.
Odds are it is the steering coupling rubbing on the manifold. You could modify the steering column UJ and fit a solid guibo instead of the donut which is on there as standard, that would free up a few mm. It also depends on what sort of "adjustments" have been made to the exhaust manifold, particularly the rear branch.

or could be the inlet manifold rubbing on the servo as said above.
There are quite a few ways of putting the M50 in such as which engine mounts are used, which brake servo etc etc.
Can you tell us anymore about what has been done in the swap or are you able to post pictures? What engine is it? Vanos or non Vanos?

Try grinding the ribbs of, maby that'll help solve the problem, if not try using harder engine mounts.
Edit: You colud modify intake manifold, afterall it is made of plastic, and it can be "welded".

Just looking at the piccie posted you can see that the rear branch of the exhaust manifold has been modified to clear the steering coupling.I can think of no reason why the 'manifold' should catch the body on full lock, which manifold, and where does it rub? Converted cars are worth the sum of their parts,IMO.

From what i could see from the photo it looks like its running the standard cast manifolds rather than the tubular ones so chances are its rubbing there. We had someone come up a few weeks back for a diff who had this problem who was running standard solid discs and the thiner springs with drums on the back still. I'd check the brakes if i were you.daimlerman wrote:Just looking at the piccie posted you can see that the rear branch of the exhaust manifold has been modified to clear the steering coupling.I can think of no reason why the 'manifold' should catch the body on full lock, which manifold, and where does it rub?
