hi guys,

going tomorrow nite to view a 98 e36 m3 evo... I have been given first refusal on engine/box/loom/brain etc... with an intention of fittin it to an e30... naturally :D

am i rite in saying that the evo engine is more tricky to complete than a non-evo engine? can anybody offer me some advice on the fit also?

If i am to purchase the bits... does anybody know exactly what i should be walking away with?

Engine and gearbox
wiring loom and all ECU's
EWS imobiliser system and transponder key
radiator

thats my basic asking list... should there be anything else i should be pulling off the car?

thank for any help fellas
Sy

(ps all i know about car is 98 estoril m3 evo with approx 100k on the clock... so will be asking and testing for vanos issues, will know more when i see the car in the flesh)

propshaft, steering rack, front struts, brakes are all usefull, depending on how far you want to go with your car.

ah i thought the e30 m3 prop was the choice for this conversion! maybe i got it mixed up with the e30 M3 diff

at this point in time i am concentrating on the engine fit only... are there a variety of engine-prop-diff options with this engine?

Ive seen a few threads detailing extensive 'shopping lists' for the M50 engine swap, but finding s50 information is a tad more tricky i think... i glanced over the popular german e30.de site to obtain info but got lost very quickly...

are the lists similar from M50 to S50?

The EWS... from Omi's post in the M50 thread, quotes that "you can't use the EWSIII system, namely you don't have a K-bus" ok, so the m3 i'm going to look at is a 98, which technically should have a version III installed (fitted to e36 models after 3/97) is there a way round this?

cheers for your help jonny

i mentioned the prop because, i used the prop from the e34 that my m50 engine and box came from.
i then cut and welded the front uj onto my own e30 unit.

You'll need the engine, loom, ews everything, aluminium engine mount arms, gearbox and gear linkages, radiator and oil cooler and a few other odds and sods from the E36.

You'll need to make a custom prop with the front half of an E36 M3/328i/E30M3/5 Series prop and the rear half of an E30 prop. An E30 3.91/3.76 diff will be perfect with the 6 speed. Gear linkages should be fine. You'll need custom exhaust manifolds and exhaust (contact BTB and sit down before they give you the price). You'll need to re-locate the brake servo in the E30 over by approx 60mm and fit a smaller servo.

Apart from that it's similar to an M50 swap. You can fit the gearbox from an e36 328i sport/3.0 litre M3 or MCoupé and use a std E30 M3 prop or 328i sport prop. You'll need an E30 M3 diff also though. I personally think the 5 speed box is better suited to the 3.2's power delivery and makes the MCoupé ultra fast. Oppinion though.

Good luck. Drop me any more questions you have.

I was under the impression that EWS III was introduced into the late E36's when the E46's first came out, 09/98.
