help please

does anyone know what aerial is fitted as standard to a 1991 H reg 325i sport. it is the one that is located ont the rear passenger side wing and not the roof.

GSF list a few different ones and i didn't know which one mine is.

Mine on my old one was on the rear wing. In black.

A roof mounted aerial is an option at the factory.

edit: just thought guys, the aerial is ok..it's just the mast that is bent and the black is starting to wear through, it looks quite crap now, should i just replace this or is it easier to reeplace the whole unit.

yeah, its an electric one, was wondering if the stalk on its own was replaceable or if the whole unit needed doing?

was going to ring the stealers tomorrow, find out how much they would do it for.

I've never changed the mast on a BMW. You should be able to get just the mast. A bit fiddley to change though!

How did you bend it!

You will probably find that a black one from GSF won't keep it's colour long, esecially if used often, the one that's fitted to the car when you bought it from me is the original! Not bad going, it never stopped once like most cheap ones that need oiling every week!

You have to pull the old one out, normally there is a flexible plastic cable on the end of the metal mast, which has a ball on the end which fits into a socket, the new one has to be fed in and you have to turn the radio on then off to get it to pull it down or something!

Hopefully someone will answer better than that. That's Vauxhall not BMW based.

Might be worth getting a quote for fitting from BMW, shouldn't be TOO expensive?

goes up and down fine mate, twas bent when i got it...not that i'm worried. the black is starting to wear off now aswell, was just trying to get it looking spot on again, i'm going to wire a switch in so that i can control when it goes up and down. just need an air con switch or similar(heated rear scrren or eveen a balnk one would be perfect)

Was it!? I never noticed, then again I don't think I ever got out of the car when the aerial was up, as I had it wired up so that it would only come on when the radio was activated or the TI was switched on. And to be honest I think I only ever listened to CD's anyway

I'd say get one from the dealer, will be a pain to change though as there will be 2 wires to run from the head unit.

i only noticed coz i wanted to check if it went up/down all the way, i only really listen to my Mp3 cd anyway but its something that will bug the hell out of me if i don't get it done.

dave, that would be cool, i will speak to ian first though, see if he had any other than HRW swithces, so it doesn't look too outta place on the dash, if not then i will let you know mate. cheers

they are difficult to get hold of my dealer told me. I had a new black one in the summer as a tree branch bent mine! the mast cost me Ԛ£33 but i didn't replace the motor which i should of done.

From what the dealer said was my one was the last one left in the country, before they had to get some more from germany which they only order in batches when enough orders are placed. Whether this is true or not i don't know

bloody hell

this is why i want a switch. min is no where near that bad. it has a 10-15 degree bend about 3/4 of the way up and is probably about 1 inch from where it should line up with.

just get the euro car parts one---i have one and it is fine and pretty quiet, only 25quid too and its made by beru so its not that shit a make. bmw one is over Ԛ£100 if i remember correctly
