Im trying to get my mum to buy a 118d or a 120d as she is getting rid of her E46.
I was just wanting to know if there is anything to look out for and if there is any common problems...She was on about getting another E46 but a later one and gettig a diesal 320d but as my Dad found out when he had an E46 320d the Turbo's go bang and also the fuel pump went on his aswell.
Do the 1 series diesals suffer with the dodgy turbos and is there anything else that goes wrong ?
BTW Its going to be something like an 05 - 06 plate.... maybe slightly newer.
118d and 120d

Hi There
Go for the 06 plate if you can as they had irradicated the turbo problem by then. Modified the Oil breather so it worked properly without clogging up.
In my experience with the 1 series they were pretty reliable.
If you buy outside of the BMW Dealer network make sure you phone your nearest dealer with the chassis number to check for any outstandind recalls.

The bigger and better car auctions have a few at the moment, and BMW dealers are getting very competitive on price. If you're buying a later one, get a 118d with Efficient Dynamics to get the £35 road tax.

Cheers for the responces guys, Its going to be 05-06 really and the 118d sounds good....143 bhp I think but im not sure of the torque figures. The £35 tax sounds good.
Is the ES model lower than an SE and do all models have run flat tyres ?
Does anyone know what power increase you can get with Chipping/Remapping ?
Cheers,
Steve

05 06 cars won't be 143bhp or the cheap road tax versions. They arrived last year iirc.
