Interested to see what head unit/speaker setups other tourings have??
Thinking of working on getting a little less distortion when I crank up the bass, but don't want anything too over the top. I'm using a Sony 45w x 4 head-unit....and as for the speakers, never really looked as haven't been into ICE for a long time now and am only just getting interested again.
Any ideas on speaker options for the touring rear speaker pods?

I use an Alpine CVA1003R AV headunit/cd changer combo with a digital processer and centre channel.
I use MB quart comps in the standard rear speaker pods(4" mid + titanium tweeter)
Got a 2 way comps in the front with 6.5" subs in door enclosure and a pr of 12's in a sealed cabinet in the boot.
There's afew amps and an active x-over with a split charging system as well

I recently fitted a component set up in the rear as there is provision for a tweeter on the rear speaker pod. With the standard size rear speaker and a tweeter, crossover and high pass filter gives a reasonable sound image and gives a little rear fill for the benefit of rear passengers.
If you want clear bass you have to have a sub of some sort though. A small sub in a box goes in the back of the touring easily. A zoner on here, who works in a audio shop (kam325itouring) had a custom fit sub box for sale some time ago which looked great for the job. It went in the corner of the boot space over the side storage door.

Don't worry about the rears (unless you're trying to keep people in the back happy!!) - just go for some components up front and a sub tucked away in the boot!!
And an amp for the front speakers will improve things no end!!!

Kam Ice - rare to find space to park. mate of mine got a box for sale built to fit nice and tight in the boot , got space for 2 x 10" and 2x 6x9 (own box fitted on top), made as compact as possible to give tight bass to fill in were the door speakers lacked.

This was my boot build, separate enclosures for the mids and subs, cost about 20 quid in total (not including electrics lol) for the mdf in 20mm thickness
Wanted: Any old component speakers, complete or separate parts, let me know what you got

Cheers
Was gonna fibreglass it all in, nice smooth and curvy, but thought id keep it simple lol, was only 400 watt rms and it loosened the rear windscreen
with real music not that slowed down 'street bass' rubbish

I occasionally like to listen to loud bassy music in my car and was very disappointed in the performance of the standard speakers which came with my touring when i got it. Tinny is the only word i can think of to describe them but i don't feel it accurately reflects just how bad it was.
Being skint i knew there was only one option - a sub.
After half a day of looking around car acc shops, being fed information which i knew to be a load of tosh by sales staff i went to halfords and picked up a 12" sub/amp/wiring kit for £100. Within an hour i had the thing fitted and set up. I intended the package to just be a quick fix and planned to replace all the built in speakers but to be honest i don't think it needs it. The bass from the sub easily compensates for the tinniness of the standard set up and the set up sounds quite respectable. I doubt i will furthur upgrade the cars audio unless i acquire a head unit for the car which inspires me to do so.

They're normally either side, behind the removable section either side of the seat back.Morat wrote:Folks, where do cables run to the rear speaker pods? My car doesn't seem to have any :/
It'll be easy enough to run new wiring to the pods if you need to.
There are a few different routes the new wires could take.

Sony CDX-S2000 headunit, Sony (can't remember which model number) 5.25 dual cone's in the standard front position, and this lot in the boot...........

Inside the box is an Infinity amp (again, can't remember the model number). The components are Infinity CS5020 IIRC, with the cross-overs hidden behind the side panels.

That does look pretty cool - sadly my car really does have to carry dogs around so I'm limited to a flat floor. Then again, they have pretty good hearing so I don't need to push many watts in their direction

Hi guys,
Just seen this thread so thought I'd add abit to it as you're iced up. Ive gone for the pioneer DEH-P88rs-II headunit and Im just installing my old-skool rockford punch 60x2 that'll power my 2 rockford 12"'s (bridged) in a custom box I had made years ago, its unpluggable so I can take it out when I need the space or when Im parking in the "ghetto". I'll upgrade the front speakers to Boston Accoustics when I get a chance and the joy of this system is the headunit has fully adjustable LPF and HPF built in so I can let the sub do the work and not thrash the smaller speakers so its possible to power them from the headunit. I'll get some pics done once Ive figured out where to hide/route the wiring to the rear of the car.

You can hide an amp in the side pocket like the pic I put in the other threadMorat wrote:That does look pretty cool - sadly my car really does have to carry dogs around so I'm limited to a flat floor. Then again, they have pretty good hearing so I don't need to push many watts in their direction

You can add some components in the back and even go for a three way component set up with two speakers in the stock locations and the larger speakers set into the side like Stu has and maybe reinforce that area.

You can always turn the fader down to save the dogs' ears.

You could always do a subtle build like my old car-

Alpine h/u
Infinity 2 way componants in custom made front door pods
Longmill 3 way componants in custom boot build
JBL 12" sub
Sony 1100w amp powering the sub
Kenwood amp powering both sets of componants
Sounded great but did nothing for boot space!
