Photo Request - Steering Wheels
Moderator: martauto
Right, I'm working on, among other things, this:
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... ing_Wheels
So, I'd like photos of all the steering wheels please, Tech1, Tech2, the four-spoke one, that three-spoke one, Hartge/Alpina, and so on. Thanks a lot.

Excellent. I've put a few of them up now. If anyone has any information about the wheels (really, anything at all) then do share. Some diameter/circumference data would be good, particularly with regard to the two kinds of tech-2 wheel. Still looking for an Alpina wheel, and anything else I don't know about or haven't listed there.
That alcantara tech-2 is lovely. I'll have to get myself one.

slight error the 3 spoke was fitted as standard to the SE models not 4 spokeFour-Spoke
Four SpokeThe "poverty-spec" four-spoke wheel. It housed four buttons, one on each spoke, to operate the horn. The design of it is very similar to that of the steering wheel found in the basic-spec BMW E12. This was the standard wheel for the facelift SE cars

I purchased this particular one from belgium or somewhere like that (i had a contact who sold them on ebay, but he's no longer on there now). I believe the e30 m3 evo 2 used these wheels. My one has the Mtech stitching on it but i believe normal ones will be just black stitching.e301988325i wrote:How much and where from??? I paid around £180 for mine, but they're around £240 now, think you can also buy then from the main dealer for alot more.
Oh, and as long as you don't put grubby fingers all over them it will last! I've had mine on the touring for over a year now and it's still fine!
And yes...it's a joy to hold compared to all other wheels for the e30 (tech 1/2 in leather!)

This is a great project you are working on & great addition to the E30 community.
The prefacelift 4 spoke Momo wheel for the Alpina was the same wheel for the prefacelift Hartge. The horn pads were identical in shape, but had different respective logos. The upper right hand spoke had the respective tuner name engraved in it.
While the face lift wheels on the 2 cars were very similar, they were not identical as the previous ones.

That's not actually true, you can clearly see the difference between the respective pads if you look at them side by side. The prefacelift 4 spoke Momo wheel for the Alpina was the same wheel for the prefacelift Hartge. The leather also covers the whole of the metal spokes unlike the alpina one.

Its very similar to the Ford RS 4 spoke wheel fitted to Mk 3 Escort RS1600i's.fuzzy wrote:the 3 and 4 spoke facelift wheels look the part but that 4 spoke pre facelift is one hideous wheel
This is a pic of the same wheel but it also has the choice of fitment to a mk4 escort as it also has a centre horn push. The mk3 having the horn push on the indicator stalk.

Aceraf - I also have a tech 2 wheel in suede / alcantara or whatever it is.
They are great to hold, and look good too in my opinion, worth the price they command.
Like you say, not putting grubby fingers on them is a must and I also regularly give mine a going over with a little suede brush which I bought for just a few quid on Ebay, only takes a few minutes and keeps it looking and feeling fresh.
