Hmmm, think their resistance should vary between 0 ohms and infinity ohms. The sensor is fed with 5v by the ECU and so it receives a signal which varies between 0 and 5v from the sensor, depending on vavuum / boost.

My understanding is that all MAP sensors operate like this, with the only difference between the pressure ranges being that is takes more pressure to get a 3bar sensor to read the same as a 2bar sensor.

Do you know what range your sensor is? Should be able to tell the Emerald what 5v means in terms of pressure.

Assuming that's the problem that is!

So its MAP dot enrichment then dude ?

can you switch over to TPS accel enrich instead and try the test again, may @ least shed some light on the assumed "duff" MAP issue

again its a maybe

mines still dead

Thx again guys
I decided to hook the map sensor up to an old pc power suply (5v) and test it with a multimeter! the voltage changed when i suck the pipe! :? so the sensors ok i guess! so checked wiring diagrams and looks like i folowed the instructions too well! in the emerald manual the pic shows the map sensor wired as follows
A:supply pin 9
B:earth pin 30
C:signal pin 34
can you see the mistake?

gm map sensors are
A: gnd
B: sig
C: +5v

So 10 mins this morning with wire cutters and all is good!
it now revs up!!
thx yet again

Brilliant, when are you taking it for that all important test drive then?

Can't wait to do mine, but i'll have to finish the exhaust first as i don't think the old bill would like a sherman tank driving around without MOT from tomorrow

Been to busy polishing the misses car, don't see why i bother, Corsa + Purple =says it all really!

Glenn, we need to share the info so we can all atleast try and keep up with you mate

All this F/I stuff is so technical I'd be lost without the others help and reading/talking about others experiances and problems has helped us all progress I'm sure.

I'm just so jelous the rest have had some success, I still have a pile of parts and wires

A few heads stand more chance than one :D

Ive been tuning cars for years and can usualy smell bad fueling or ignition from 60 paces
now its come down to setting up this lot its all difernt this mapping process is a lot to get your head round i cant tell if its too rich/lean what way the ignition (adv/ret) needs to go!

at the moment im still thinking its the fueling! stopping it reving up proper :?
if i build the throttle up slowly it revs ok! but if i blip it its like it cuts everything :? still ill have a proper look friday when my neighbours arent giving me

Hmm, wouldn't be something like accell enrichment either doing too much or not enough would it?

Think you can set how long it lasts for so perhaps if it's accel enriching for too long, it might be choking it to death.

Can't wait to start trying to get mine to run

Dude, I'm having to buy a cable for the MS so I can hook it up to the PC, only found that out once I'd removed it and the battery, had the misses beat me for putting the battery on the hall carpet and then realised the cable is not the one I have!! F**k it....off to Maplins to get the right one asap!!

I just hope it's cold and damp when it comes to mapping time, this heat kills my M20, I don't bother driving it when it's past 25'c, just no go.....need a damn fridge plumbed into the air intake....hmmmm....I wonder

Mark make sure and get a fully pinned straight through DB9( RS232) not a null modem cable.

Glenn, I'm starting low @ 5.5 Psi and working upwards from there, we certainly have the fuelling control in place, the turbos are capable of 16 psi and all the plumbing is hard piped so no real losses there.

The engine is the weakest link, Jim Naff in the Us destroyed his @ 15.7 PSi but that was after 80K boosted miles, and a lot of drag strip action, theres a video on his site of his car wheelieing away from the lights on slicks

as for power ???? I'd like a LOT, but I'll settle for a relaible and torquey 250 bhp ish

BBR back in '91 marketed a small T2.5 based turbo kit, with piggyback ECU and tiny intercooler, that made an honest 250 all day long @ 6psi, I have the mag article and dyno sheets somewhere

I'm planning to run about 6 psi or so max. Hoping to make about 260bhp which looks like it will hopefully be achievable if that kit Ant mentioned made 250 on 6psi :)

I'm not so secretly hoping that my individual TBs might liberate some ponies

Essentially, I need at least 240 to get a similar power to weight as the 205 Mi16Turbo I'm building for my mate! Can't have the french beating the germans now can we?!

There must be another connecting pipe either up or down, but its difficult to say, up and the turbo would be tight against the manifolds, down and it would be close to the engine mount.

Looks similar in ways to yours alex,

By the way i think the individual throttle bodies won't release ponies but racing horses instead!

Yeah, that is an odd one!

Guess there are a couple of bends missing in the photo which connect the two halves into the turbo.

Looks like the rear most manifold is missing a bit too.

Wonder if that's a takeoff for an external wastegate on the front one.

Look pretty neat though!

Did some more wiring last night so I've now got the ECU controlled fuel pump relay and also the main engine relay connected up.

Will hopefully get the TBs mostly mounted this weekend as I've enlisted the help of a mate and some bastard-files :)

Once they're on, I can hopefully finalise the wiring in the engine bay and connect up the fuel side!

Alex,

There is a guy called JON VOLK, he's a e30tech member and I think he is now on here too.

He's running bike TB's on his M20 and as far as I know they're on and working, he may be of use to you.....

Just thought I'd mention it :D

With reference to the pinto, its an old ford engine, came in 2.0 or 2.1 i think. Was in the mk2 escort amongst others i think. NA though, but if it makes it rev it makes it rev!

We need videos!

Alex the flange came today, its wierd its everso slightly smaller but will work fine once i've enlarged the bolt holes, so now i'm in the process of making the two into one bit to bolt to it. I've come in for a break as its swelteringly hot outside. Its not fun welding when its 25 outside.

I'll get something in the post for you after the weekend probably.

Cheers

Mmmm, interesting about the Pinto map, guess it's a 2v engine so perhaps the airflow is more comparable to the M20 than the VR6

Len, if you want to keep the Pinto map but use the VR6 MAP sensor compensation, we found that an easy way of combining maps (too many maps I know) is to rename the file as a *.txt file.

You can then open tem both up and cut and paste the relevant bits accross before saving and re-renaming them as *.fig files again. Not sure if that's any help

Jon, glad it turned up alright! Don't need to send me anything unless you absolutely want to! :)
