That boils my p155 too. :cheese:
Even though I rarely run on petrol, I always put 5 gallons in.
TBH, the whole "How far can you get on a tenner?" thing annoys me. Only putting small amounts of fuel in is false economy. It's certainly no way to calculate fuel consumption. The only reason I know how far my car goes on a tenner is because one of my regular calculations is cost per mile.
Thank **** its not just me who gets cheesed off at this!
I rarely put anything less than 1/2 tank in but cant put more than 50 litres in, as the o-rings that seal the pump are cracked and leak if i fill the tank. I'm reeeet council I am (althought i have just spent £130odd quid on practically nothing at my local stealers, so I'm not ALL council!) It's on my list of things to do on my week off anyway!
+4!

132 miles to £10, anyone beat that? :) Thanks mainly to LPG dropping to under 50p a litre now :)

Annoyingly my mums clio dci at 70mpg does beat it! Bah, its french.

The figure I remember him quoting me was £242 using some luck on ebay with 2nd hand parts and some elbow grease. I could be wrong though

My 320Ci (E46 M54B22) does around 100 miles on £10 with LPG :) Probably more now the price of LPG has come down. If i drive like a granny I'll get further it drops to a out £8.50 for 100 miles.

About 23mpg is what I should get on a combined cycle.

I will always fill the car up but then I will drive only 2 tanks fulls a month if that. I do tiny miles in my Alpina so I am happy to put up with it been more thirsty than a united fan after beating city on derby day ;)

On gas its about 80 - 90, mainly country lanes and the B20 is not the most economical engine, ive forgotten how many it will do on petrol, i only use it for a matter of seconds when i need a quick getaway with a cold engine (pulling out of work onto a main road uphill)

It's a month since i filled the tank and the needle hasn't moved yet

Strangely I'm getting further on £50 than I did last month! Is my engine getting better or is it just stupid to calculate your range based on price?

Close Scott, I think it was £222, actually when I think about it, it might have been around £240

Either way, i'm probably back on an even keel now, expenditure wise. Time to make some money now

I average 30mpg in my b20 moredoor, brim it every time and do the calculations, so errrr..... petrol is 89.9p a litre round here at the moment... *fetches calculator*... 73.4 miles to £10.

Its stupid to calculate range on price - fuel up in Tesco at 89.9p/litre. Then fill up on the motorway at £1.10/litre. It doesnt take a genius to work out that you wont go as far for your ££££. Its also variable on geography within our country - Not all Shell stations charge the same, based on geographical location. Likewise its also gay to base range on 'full tank' as pre-facelift cars had 55litre tanks originally, while later/tourings had 63litre tanks. However, some cars have extra fuel cells which kick the capacity up to 80odd litres or 100litres in the case of Hartge fuel cells in the boot. MPG or km/l is the only unbiased way.

Agreed. Even mpg figures are not that comparable from car to car unless you take into account a correction factor for differing speedo error. Been meaning to do this with a tomtom for a while. Not sure I'd trust the OBC figures either as I assume they rely on the fuel gauge which is very inaccurate.

Stop start town driving is the killer - even if you feel you've been more heavy footed than usual, it's likely that most of your open road driving is cruising in 5th - speed limits will see to that. I drive the cabby a lot harder as it's a weekend car and still see high 20s mpg. A couple of weeks with no motorway trips and a lot of scooting about in town saw my 4dr drop to 21mpg.

I think we're all saying the same thing :)

I _think_ the OBC works from the injectors and calculate the consumption that way - I can only assume that it uses the fuel gauge for remaining range though, and can't be accurate (as you say).

Funnily enough was out with the missus on sunday for a last blat before tax runs out on sunday, and was doing my best to see how bad it was!!! however i couldnt get the floating MPG guage under 10mpg...gutted was hoping for less in 3rd foot to the floor blasting up the dual carriageway slip road....
Its a 6 pot , i didnt buy it for economy. Now my old off roading range rover 3.5 V8 on carbs ...thats was bad...

my 325i cab cost me £40 to fill the tank up from just under a 1/4 left. out of the first 1/4 i've got about 80 miles. not sure how close to a tenner that is but seems ok to me. was getting 180 miles out of 60 quid in the scoob.

71 miles! well happy with that, rolled into asda before the light came on.

Normal Mpg's are 25/30 with some funtime, poss more but didn't build it for economy :D

While tuning it, we managed 20 litres in 19miles, full chat pulls, on off driving etc, having triple the stock injectors flow certainly doesn't bode well for getting more miles out of a tank.
