i take it your not wireing the comps upto the amp

too get the full benifit from comps you are best amping them, i had mine un-amped and thought they sounded awful and distorted easily, then i wired them upto an amp and the difference was 100 times better, could turn them up about 50 times louder without them distorting

:D

I'm going to run them off the headunit, amp is purely for the subwoofer. I might get a separate amp for the comps though if budget allows

Amp seems a little underpowered to me, sub can be wired to show 1ohm and will handle 1000 wrms, but the amp will only put out 750 wrms.

you wont be getting the full output from the sub with that amp , and if you did pay £200 for that sub its not worth it! for £30 more you can get a orion hcca 12.2 2000watts rms 4,000watts peak which will take a serious beating before it blows. the vibe comps are good but i wolud have gone with "Infinity: Reference 5010cs - £40" they seem to have more of a warm /soft sound to them over the hard/sharp sound on teh vibes.

i guess your building a box for a 12" over the 10's you were planning.

What amp do you recommend then? I didn't pay £200 for the sub, i'm not that crazy  . I got the whole stuff for a very good deal.

Yeah, i've decided to go with one 12" sub now.

I've got one 12" in a box, and 2 amps set up in my cab, but when i have time, i need to build a bigger box so i can house the other 12" sub into the car.

I've got a very old DAP 600, 2 x 12" pioneer subs, Jbls in the back qtrs and comps in the footwell and tweeters on the A pillars and a cheap acoustic solutions amp to power the sub.

But as said b4 Imy, your going to need another amp to power the comps and front speakers as going through the head unit will sound shit mate.

When you've got the install done, i want to see pics of how the 12" is boxed. winkeye

Are you after more Bass or Quailty. You can keep your current sub but use a sealed box to get quailty where you want more bass then go with a ported box. But the problem with ported boxes you'll start hearing farting noises if you playing it at maxium which i doubt it because your amp is not powerfull enough

Oh yeh make sure you have 2 small holes in the rear shelve to get some bass in the cabbin it would sound better as there is air and will make the cabbin as a ported box

If your nuts then you'll need 2 x sub's and 2 x amp's. Sounds Really crazy. Makes the E30 rocks. Sets of Peoples alarms and can be hard a long distance away. Had my sounds fitted just to hear it and it sounded wicked. Had to take erm out know am welding.

Go ahead with a sealed box. On the box of the sub it should say the diemension of the box needed for the sub. Get a slightly bigger one. So beat droppes better.

And you lucky then have you got a ski hatch, if soo make the holes there and make that B line come it.

I do reckon you should amp your speakers thuo as then you have some bass and very little Treble so get them amped and they you'll love you sounds with just one Sub because there will be greater bass coming out from the speakers aswell

Ps to amp another amp it only takes two extra wires and two distribution blocks and you'll be :D

The sub has dimensions for the box but those dimensions are too big for my boot :( . Will have to be custom made.

No ski hatch am afraid :(

I think that is what i am going to do, seen a Kenwood 350w on ebay for about £40 so probably get that one.

Do you reckon i should sell the sub i have got and get 2 subs that will work better with the amp?

Well it must be custom made. And your too far away i could of let my guy do you a box for peanuts.

Can you see anywhere you could make a small hole from the boot to the cabbin. Because trust me you sub will be thumben so hard but you can only hear like 50-60% of that you'll start thinking the set up is rubbish.

Yeh pick up that up if its that cheap with a close power rating to your speakers.

If the speakers are like 500 or lower theres no point only if you change you amp. Because it will be the same.
One sub = more power, more stress and bigger Bass drop
Two sub's = Less stress (less likely to blow them) on each sub but the drop is a bit bigger

But you wont blow you sub because you amp is smaller than you. So no worries but dont put the gain more than 3/4's

It always seem's to be the case mate, where abouts are you from?

Not really, unless i cut a ski hatch out (but i don't want to do that)

I think i'll stick with this and see what it sounds like, if it's totally crap then i'll have to think of something else :(

I've got a 15" Kicker powered by a Alpine 500w amp. Sounds awesome

Am from london mate.

Well if you dont have it then dont bother theres always better sounds to get.

Yeh see how it goes and if you want more information just pm me.

Have you got the wiring in? if you do, then replace both amp and sub with the above set up and see which is better for your ears.

Then just sell the unwanted one because sounds will always fetch up money no matter how old they are.

Btw 15" got a wicked bass drop but they are a few milli second late :?

If i run 2 different subs (different make/model), will the sound be crap?

The wiring isn't in at the moment, all i've done so far is get the equipment. Hopefully it will all be fitted by next Sunday.

The sub and amp that i have got must be worth about £300.

15" are great, i've got it installed in my Civic at the moment

I'll look into that Alex

Well you'll have different voltage at your amps and your subs will be firing at different timing so it will be crap. Its better to use two subs but they must be at the same ohms. Say 2 ohms stayable for both subs and 4 ohms at the amp.

Just get the wiring fitted and then listen to the sounds and put what you like.

oh yeh and its cheaper to get a amp for the front. So just dont worry about the rear speakers and leave it for now. But its upto you

That is what i was thinking as well, wiring should be in some time this week so i will see what sounds best before i fit it in properly.

I'm thinking of going with 2 10" subs now, keep changing my mind

Thanks for the info

Well as for 10" they do sound nice but il prefer 12" any day. Its up to you and really depends on how much bass you want.

10" and 12" have nothing to do with how much bass you get its the way its delevered and what music you listen to,

if you listen to hard twisting drum and bass get a twin 10"set up if your more in to rock were the bass is low and long go for a 12" or 15" bass is a wide spectrem and id have twin 10"'s over 12"s

i hade a vibe active 12 black air and it sounded crap i set it up and tweaked it for about 20 mins and didnt sound better,

sounded real nice with the boot open but once closed sounded crap in the car!!!

bigger the sub more lazy it gets, but that dosent mean you can play drum and bass on a 18" sub it will play it but it will take a load of power and it will be delayed to the rest of the speakers then you go the hassle of fitting time alinement and settin up right so it all sounds nice. i say for normal day to day listening go for 10's or 12's , 15's for sum street bassin. 18" and 22" and 34" subs leave it alone for street use unless you got deep pockets! there mainly for SPl 1 note wonder's

thers some decent 10" out there, and there plently of 10 inchers that will blow the shit outta any 12-15-22-34-50 what ever
theres no way on earth youred run a 18" sub firsty unless you have stable 1ohm plus proberly 40000wats and secondly bigger isnt always better with subs, like i said 10" will kick a bigger sub of same wattage on the same track, purely becasue the response from the 10 is better then the 12 and 15 and finaly i said 10" are good for tight twisty d&b and garage, 12" for r&b hip hop that dosnt have such a demanding bassline and for rock and other music that has low but slow sound waves beeing there low punchy bass instead or quick smaller bass that dnb has.

and as you say sp1 one note wonderes are exactly all you can do with anything above 20" i belive, your get more response from a dead bug, that said if you take this guide as comparasion then your have the right sub all the time

10" for tight hi freq dnb jungle etc down side it wont hit very low if you listen to say ice cube that has wicked basslines

12" a good "all rounder and is basicly in the middle playing preety anything but will sound gash if you set it up on one genre of musicgood response and good bass, down side it isnt punchy like a ten nor bassy like a 15

15" realy only use on low freq if you listen to slow hip hop and long basslines that dont need to react quickly down side if you fancy some dnb itll play thebas but it will just sound like one long bassline and nothing more thus total opposide to the 10"

that said ive had a 15" and 2 10" work along side each other and it sounded better then any sound system ive heard or had since, thinking about it i may do another setup, but any way there you go

well said mate , i did a 4 x 15" jbl gt4 in a claped out j-reg asta he spent nearly £1k on the stuff and i installed it for about £150 and once set up and running the car was falling to bits and to no surprise it got nicked and found it ripped apart ,lol still he came back and got the same system fitted again but with one of thoes 3000watt "thelouldest.com" amps it was like a picking up a box of tea bags, worked fine for a month then it turned in to a smoke machine, lol fitted 2 pyle dryver digital amps and was surprised that being a cheap brand they had alot to give!
