Who insured you on that as a first car!!? 8O

I've had a couple of Capri 2.8is, I love them. 8)

Even though they are technically a bit rubbish they are great fun to drive and with a set of naughty exhausts the noise is fantastic! winkeye

I found that blokes appreciated them but girls were hardly ever impressed! :(

My dad's parents, more money than they know what to do with. I like 'em too, they're nicely in between small muscle car and big sports car. Those exhausts there, even though they look shite (they are now altered to make them look better) are full stainless custom ones, so it sounds like a old school V6 rally car. They're very much a "bloke" car. My mate has one too, mq3 1.6 pre-laser era, real poverty spec. Mine has been SORN for years, since I got my 320i. I'll have it out one day.

Nice car that and on the A as well. I has a diamond white A plate 2.8i for a short while. Had it off my brother when he traded it at 3 years old. Ran it along side my statos mk2 2.8 Ghia granada pre facelift. Decided to keep the Granny and sell the Capri as even in those days, the capri was getting a bit naff :o:

my mate had a nice D reg 2.8 special, was on the fat 13" rs 7 spokes with the twin Janspeed exhausts. He married it with a wall whilst some of us were on holiday, so we missed the opportunity for the immediate pish take :)

Last I heard it was acquired by a capri nut from Hartlepool and is a proper concourse and well known example now apparently.

I was shaking like a shitting dog the first time he took me for a ride in it as he has been known to have his moments behind the wheel and the capri came with the reputation and stories of people driving around with bags of cement in the boot to keep the rear end in check, but you did have to be a hooligan to have it out of shape.

Agree on the "bloke car" comment, the wife, bless her, generally likes retro and older varieties of cars and over the past 12 years she has unwittingly become a bit of a petrol head and absolutely loves her MK2 gti, but the capri is a definite no.

A bloke at work got wind of the fact I was a bitof a crapi nut, so told me about his. He started on a 1.6 then went to a 2 litre, then a 2.8 befre finally owning a 3 litre. He said on the 2.8 an 3 he had to keep a big heavy metal toolbox in the boot to help hold it down!

I absolutely loved my mk3 3.0S. Fantastic sounding, Essex V6 engine that burbled or growled depending upon the volume of the loud pedal and true rear-wheel steering winkeye I bought it new in '78 and ran it trouble-free for nearly 140K. I used to have to travel up to n. Wales regularly and attacking the winding roads was immense fun.

I haven't tried the cement in the boot trick. When I got it, the car had been given a different rear suspension setup. I've never driven another Capri hard enough to have experienced the loose tail. Leaf springs. Haha. I still think that's comical.

Is it a common thing to put a Rover V8 in them? The mate I mentioned in post #3 is doing it, and twin turbocharging it. I know where there's a 2.8 rusting in a field, if anyoneone wants a hell of a restoration project. Be nice to save one, since they're getting rarer these days. Weirdly, I find myself liking that Interceptor. Needs lowering though..?

That's the car I'm using as a base for the styling of my friend's Capri! He asked me to re-design the exterior styling, and that's the very photograph I'm using for ideas and inspiration, along with one or two others, of different cars. If you'd like to see the designs when I'm done, just e-mail me. It wont be completed for a while yet (hence why I need the e-mail, as a reminder) but so far it's going well. I've got some very weird designs whilrling around in my head. Have you got more photographs I could have? I seem to recall the rear lights had something special about them..? Or am I just thinking of those lights that are behind the grille? I dunno.

Depends on how old you are but I bet you got to see plenty of 'Blue Oval' machinery about where you live. Used to work around Thurrock/Grays area with a guy who told me about a small site where Ford used to keep and test their prototypes - looks like an knackered old warehouse but apparently there was a lot going on inside. Can't remember exactly where it is...

My Old Man had two. A 1976 R reg 2.0S (VAA875R) in Jade green bought almost new, replaced by a black 3.0S Mark 3, GYD153T in around 1980. Both dead now no doubt.
I had a mint Capri 2.0GL, SMG813Y in Caspian blue. A lovely example of an absolutely awful car. I went to the auctions looking for a cheap Sierra to smoke around in, and this thing was right at the back, a p/x from Perry's the Ford dealer in Aylesbury. It had been restored by them with a pair of wings, a full paint job and it was already a low miler. I paid £330 for it plus fees, about £380 out of the door. That car was so utterly mint and straight plus it had been Ziebarted. The interior still loked and smelt fresh.
I ran it for 2 months, absolutely hated it (slow, noisy, uncomfortable, rubbish suspension, feeble handling, no grip) and sold it for well over a grand. That was in 1997, and the bugger is still SORNED so it's about somewhere.
I replaced it with a Sierra 2.0GL on the Y plate which was a vastly superior vehicle in every way (i.e it had something called 'suspension'), and then by an A plate Henna red 520i which was better again.

Four cyl Capris are rubbish, but a nice 76-77 3.0S Mark 2 in Signal orange, Cadiz stripey seats and the optional 7x13 X Pack RS alloys in the standard arches? Yes Please.

I briefly had a ride sitting in the back of a black 3.0S Capri, it was cramped to say the least. I also had a Capri door slammed shut on my fingers by a 'mate' back in the day, and had to have my hand wrapped in a bag of frozen peas. So my experience of them isn't good, but I admire the styling.

My mates dad had a black Capri when I was at infant school. It was brand new at the time and whenever we were in it he would pretend that it was KITT and that we would performing the old 'Turbo Boost' manouver - hugely exciting for a 6 year old!!
