Engine numbers realy,
Is the M50 out of a E36 325i?
m30 out of a old 735i?
M20 out of a e30 325i?
Also ive been offered a complete e36 325i if i wanted to do a swap into a e30 what do i need to take frome the e36? (apart from the angine loom and ecu)
will the gear box, propshaft diff etc fit?
Confused........

the e36 325i has the m50 and will go into your e30 but you will need to use an e34 m50 sump, oil pick up and dipstick,
on the plus side you will already have the engine mounts! also i think with the e36 loom the ecu will sit where your existing ecu sits (under the dash)

What about the gearbox, prop, diff etc can the e30 ones be used or do they have to be off a e36 aswell?leeparkes wrote:the e36 325i has the m50 and will go into your e30 but you will need to use an e34 m50 sump, oil pick up and dipstick,

M50 thread will help but there are lots of twists and turns in it that will confuse you.E36 uses a gearbox with a direct drive top gear,E36 diffs are not a direct fit.E30 uses gearboxes with a direct 4th gear and an 'overdrive 5th.Therefore using the E36 'box will render 1st redundant and 5th a bit low. Will accelarate like a cat on speed though...I am using an M40 'box(Getrang 240)and a diff from a 324d,which is either a 3.25 or a 3.35 depending on where you get your ratio information from,as there is no tag on it! Main difficulty with this conversion is the exhaust, room is limited and I am currently struggling at this point.e30-unit-soldier wrote:What about the gearbox, prop, diff etc can the e30 ones be used or do they have to be off a e36 aswell?leeparkes wrote:the e36 325i has the m50 and will go into your e30 but you will need to use an e34 m50 sump, oil pick up and dipstick,
