Been reading through and not sure on which loom to use, Am I using the orginal m20 loom that was in the touring to start with ? or do I need to fit the e34 item I have ?

Can't see why the m20 one would not work but need to know.

Cheer's.

The M20 loom will work as far as I know but you may need to extend a few wires. The TPS connection may be different as well depending on the age of the engine. Is it an M30b34 (e24/e28) or b35 (e34/e32)?

In reality, if you have the corresponding M30 loom, why don't you want to use it?

Because it is not in the same amout of separate peices, Seem's very short aswell.

Think it will look neater too.

B35 - E34 btw

I used the m30 loom with no problems at all, the only thing that is a few inches short is the feed under the dash for the ecu, but all you do is turn the ecu 180 degrees and all fits. The other is the 2 mods for the starter motor and swapping some wires round for the blower and electric windows to work.
I'd used the m30 loom again if i had to.

All you'll need to do is extend the coil connections, add a starter motor connection & change a couple of pins in the C101 - easy stuff :)

With an M30 loom you don't need to extend the coil connections (or potentially have to change the TPS connection, there are two types on the M30) - even easier stuff.

Oh yeah good point!

Either way, if you've got the M30 loom then use it. If you don't, you can modify the M20 one to suit.

I came to the conclusion of using the m30 loom because of the injector rail. The coil and dme/fuel relay's can be relocated easy. I think I have an e28 tb though as it has the rond conector and the loom has the rectangle one, so I will swap the tps to suit. Just got to get a couple of bit's and she's ready to go in.

That round TPS is also found on E32/E34''s Marc. I don't think you can use an m20 TPS on an M30, despite looking the same - they are not.

In that case I will have to get one. Thank's for the heads up. Picking up my starter motor and some rubber bit's soon so I will see if they have one for me... It is the 34 loom and engine.

ah balls, zaust when you asked me before about the loom i had already had the injector loom sorted by jaffro. or he used the m30 ones?

for the rest all you need to do is extend the AFM as the rest fits. bit tight on the TPS and the ICV but they do fit and all in teh riht place for the OEM look.

The write up said some of the M10 gear boxes will work with the M30 motor. Are not he 5 speed boxes the getrag 240 type. Won't these be to weak for the torque of an M30. Am I missing something? If the 240 box is the one to use then surely it will take the torque of an eta motor.

Got the rad in (e28 535). E34 Bottom left hose too short. What one should be used ?. E30 wont fit...

And the return hose to the coolant bottle . There is no outlet on the e28 535 rad. Do I just block the one on the bottle, or will this cause to much pressure ?.

There shouldn't be a hose on the bottom left Marc. It's top left and bottom right. You need an e28 535i or e24 635csi bottom rad hose, and a trimmed top rad hose (it's too long if left standard).

The E28 rad does have an overflow pipe on the top, sounds like you have the wrong rad.

Changing from position one to two, how much extra work am i looking at on the prop and other bits?

Because if i can change from one to two using the current prop then that would be ideal, but i doubt it though. Any ideas or thoughts?

If the prop is in 2 halfs, you might just get away with it as you can adjust the length on the splines by the centre bearing

What is your current prop? Will almost certainly be 2-piece, but more details are needed than that - is it custom or OEM?

Mines declared off road and parked up, i have not driven it in such a long time. I need to get my ass in gear and move some other projects off my drive before i bring this back to the road.

Its a crying shame because it has just been sitting there rusting away. Its in no condition to show to anyone yet it is too embrassing lol

I want to start working on it within the next few weeks, hopefully the weather stays dry.

I have used both and not noticed any differences.

The only differences I know of is the TPS plug, and that depends whether it's from an auto or manual car, and that is the case for E34 and E32.

Reading from other forums i hear that the stock e28 m5 flywheel is lighter than the m30 one.

Image

May be a cheaper option than an aftermarket one.

Anyone done this or got experience of a lighter flywheel on a m30?

What does it feel like? winkeye :?
