I might buy this just as a project. It's a runner needing a bit of welding, but in generally good order. I was thinkimg of 325i running gear (I can buy that from Oze30 out of the 325i he bought yesterday) and a silver respray with subtle 17" alloys and a full retrim. Any thoughts?

Oh hell yeah, would love to see some Bavarian powered British Leyland car. Sounds awesome, ambitious, but do it!

Blimey, thats a late one. M20 in it would make it a car BL should have made. These were always a nice car. The PI was a quick car in it's day....when they ran properly

Love those 2.5s particularly the S. Have seen them as late as S reg in the past. Maybe an M30 3.5 would be a good choice, would hustle that along nicely

Nothing wrong with the 2.5 Triumph engine, a good strong unit capable of good power. The only issue with the injection system was the fuel pump overheating, cheaply cured by fitting a standard Bosch pump.
I wouldn't modify it too much.

Not quite correct Mr Everrit, the seals in the OE injection system do not like unleaded, there is an improved seal available to get round the issue, but why stick with mechanical injection when something much better is available?Andyboy wrote:Nothing wrong with the 2.5 Triumph engine, a good strong unit capable of good power. saw a car with this engine in at the classic car show.it had emerald management on it with electronic injectors in the standard throttle bodies.looked a really cool modern solution to the unleaded issue.would also require hardened valve seats i,d have thought though

They were a decent enough car back in the day, but that was 30 years ago and the Triumph 2000 came out in '63. The last one was in '77, replaced by the Rover 2300 and 2600. They rot like buggery around the rear floor/suspension area which is a sod to do properly.
2500S isn't an injection one anyway - the ended in '74 when the TR6 went to carburettors. The S replaced it and manual versions have standard overdrive and PAS.

This is what it looks like after the first major clean and machine. On closer inspection, it appears to be very well cared for in a previous life. All the tyres are Dunlops of similar wear, the window rubbers are either new or have seen little sun, a Kenlowe fan is fitted and other things that indicate a cosseted life.
There are a few bits that could do with a blow in here and there but nothing major, starts on the button, though the starter is a bit noisy now and then.
Pity it's sooooo fcuking ugly!

I think it would look great re - sprayed in black. That would bring out all the chrome and make those wheels look like real features.
It's ugly because it is turd coloured, in my opinion

Ugly !
I really like them
As it is a goodun I would suggest getting the original 2.5 going properly seems a shame to turn a decent one into some hybrid / unfinished project.

The motor runs very well and is still extremely smooth, in fact the only thing on the car that doesn't work is the electric aerial. There are no rattles even and I was genuinely shocked at how well it drives.

I think the engine swap would be a great idea but leave the exterior and wheels the same and make a sleeper!

Nothing wrong with that engine, I had a 2.5 PI and it went like sh*t off the shovel. Change up a gear at 105mph 30 years ago in a comfortable 5 seater wasn't hanging about i can assure you. As for the looks, its gorgeous; and never change the original colour (it was the fashion at the time).

"STAG V8" now there's a crap engine if there ever was one, the only thing that killed the STAG.Elecblondie wrote:Cool, I've got a friend with a Stag V8 powered Dolomite.StuBeeDoo wrote:Nice car.I had an acquaintance many years ago who had a 2000 Estate with a Stag V8 in.

Yup - loadsa BMC cars wore that colour - I had a 1972 Austin 1800 Landcrab in that or a very similar brown - the factory called it "Saddle Brown"Bewdley320T wrote:Nothing wrong with that engine, I had a 2.5 PI and it went like sh*t off the shovel.
