someone with an e30 look up the length in their handbook. the figs on carfolio might be wrong, but as i said, the compact figs are straight out of a 1995 bmw compact handbook. i think the e36 front end is longer, so overall it's not that much shorter despite the stumpy tail.

lol. e30 318is weight according to handbook is 1125kg. Early e36 coupe 318is is 1250kg iirc. tbh didn't realise there was so little in it weight-wise between e36 compact and e30 IS, still would have an e36 coupe over an e36 compact i think though for the z axle, they handle really well.

Rear spoiler adds some balance to the blunt rear of the compact.

Yes you're right they are around 1250kg according to a few sites I checked.

45.2 Mpg from the M44 though Tim, thats my usage not the claimed figs, that's extra urban( 40 town/60 motorway ) too and I don't sit in the inside lane nursing it either

looks are subjective for defo, indeed I still have a love/hate relationship with it , but at the end of the day, its transport , RWD and runs on air, I looked @ e36 coupes( I have owned an M3 and a 325 this year too ) but they are overpriced, under maintained turds in the pricebracket( or councilled to death ) so a low miles minty Ti ticks a lot of boxes suddenly.

Compacts are still very much in demand too Ant, hence the strong secondhand prices still. A good compact isn't forsale long. We bought ours with in 3 days of the previous keeper advertising it and we sold it on within 2 weeks also

fair point ant but for me im used to getting 240 miles to a tank ( £45 ) so economy really isnt a factor.. although saying that schnitzer did build a 3.2 evo based compact.. now that would be worth having!

The Compact and E30 is in many way two cars who forfill each other good, only that the E36 is much more modern. Here in Sweden, the 323tii is a populare car and I can see plenty of them, but my favorite is the 4 pot 140bhp version who can also be a very good track day car and it also more handy than a E30 as well.

I'd have a 318ti if it was really cheap.

But then the back end looks too much like a Mk5 Escort. Maybe I prefer the RS2000 winkeye

Would it be possible to get a couple of mountain bikes in the back of a compact?

now this
Image

has pi$$ed me right off! about 2 months agoi sprayed one of my type1s black, and pit a red rim pinstripe on, with a view to doing the rest when i got time, and having never seen them on a compact, and now, before i can finish them and get them on i see this

not keen on the front end though, the earlier, standad e36 AC front spoiler looks loads nicer than that bozz eyed lumpy foglamp one :?
cheers,

harry
