Midnight has a HX40 for sale

linky

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=117597

hes open to offers on it now

Iv got a family memeber out in states and hes breaking them all off the Cummins motors or any big trucks to be fair, also was looking about on ebay.com (us) and theres loads out there, you can get ones as big as your head or haha smaller. but they are all around $150 not really much tbf for what you getting, obv your buying blind, but atleast its not huge amounts of money!

Looking at a turbo motor for yours?

turboin was the plan from the very start my friend, i miss boost loads

its even got to the point that i cain the nut's off my lorry just so i can hear it spool up

im only after something reliable not going for mad power, 3-350 at the fly will do me nicely, am just trying to figure out what spec holset would manage it with relative ease

engine spec is guna be pretty standard, ive got a good base to work from the lump in the car is in very good nick, basically there is guna be a set of head studs going in and then a home brew turbo kit bolted on,

im guna make the downpipe, exhaust and screamer pipe, intercooler's are readily available, some bigger injector's, tial wastegate, oil lines etc i can have made, the usual other bits to get it working, and im going to be using the new unichip setup as a company down the road from me who ive used for years and trust can do me a deal inc the mapping on their Dastek Dyno, but i may have a jolly down to A-Tech and bend Ant's ear a bit

im just trying to finalise in my head what turbo mani to use, ive pretty much decided to go for an egay one but kind of remanufature it once purchased, unless funds allow then it'll be a 666fab one

been following your build aswell mate looks excellent bet your itching to get it on the road!!

I'm a turbo guy BUT I would suggest that anyone going down this route MUST check out the rotrex conversion, stock M20B25 will see 340bhp all day and takes a fraction of the work to fit.

When I started my project the only SC'd e30 I had only made 230bhp, so that's why I went turbo, now tho, I wouldn't.

Hindsight eh!?!?!

HX35 is spot on! 14 to 18cm3 housing is what your aiming for, external WG too.

Check out farming and industrial power generation for used holsets, just be careful what you get as your aiming for the small ones

tbh i am a turbo guy aswell ive got mates who have had supercharged motors before and while they are great theres just something more lunaticish about a tubby that i like + i want to build/manufacture some of the bits my self so its guna be a turbo

after having a look on US egay i see what you mean phil about there being a few to choose from and as i can get bits shiped from the states quite easily im guna keep my eye on there

only thing is still the manifold, what do you guys think to the ebay one's? im going for external wastegated set up but is there a better version i could buy or could i do something to the ebay one that would make it better?? eg re-welding it or just wrapping it or painting it???

I think the ebay ones generally need a brace fitting to them to help support the weight of the turbo and other attachments, otherwise with the heat cycles and stresses, they tend to crack.

you would need to control it electronically, that is not a normal turbo.

the ones that are NOT that one.
hx35, hx40, should be your most likely choices.
check out the turbo section on www.e30tech.com for ALL the info you could need.
