Hi Chisel,
Just completed a similar upgrade but on a 2 door - Alpine head unit (an iPod only item), 4 channel amp for the F/R speakers and 2 channel for the sub... Your spec sounds pretty impressive! I used infinity speakers front and rear as had good experience with them in another install.
Just built a sealed box for the sub that houses a 10" alpine and sits just behind the rear bulkhead so the speaker can be seen just behind the ski hatch, which I removed. Got all the dimensions for the box from the JL Audio webpage - a 'square' box with tapered edges (to match the angle of the rear bulkhead) is pretty easy to put together with a jig saw and a bit of patience. It also doesn't take up much space in the boot to be honest. A cabrio though is a whole other challenge!! Not sure how that is all going to fit - but angling the speaker so it 'lays back a touch may give you some clearance.
Have you considered the ultra thin subs being offered in the USA for pickup trucks that fit behind the seats - not sure how they sound but they look pretty trick!
Have a look at www.crutchfield.com for their views on making your own box - did mine with thick MDF and acoustic carpet and it cost me about £60 all up and sounds pretty good....!
Good luck...

So guys, with what we said the other day about dropping the rear speakers and using the money to get even better speakers what are you thoughts on the Alpine SPz-13REF's (see link below)m are they worth that much more. They're actually 180w where as the others (SPR 13S) are 300w. Any thoughts?

If you are putting them in the oe postitions i would stick with the SPR13S . T others are a referance speaker better for custom install ie doorpods for better sound staging
