e30 318is, which LSD can i fit?
Moderator: martauto
you'll want a 4.10 LSD if you want to keep the same acceleration as the standard open 4.10 diff in the iS or a 3.91 LSD which will be much cheaper and easier to find but you'll lose SLIGHTLY on the acceleration front... no biggie
as far as i know the only E30s fitted with an LSD as standard were the 325i sport and the M3. the 325i sport had the 3.91 i think. The iS wasn't fitted with one as standard but as an option it would hae been the 4.10.
you can often find 4.10 LSDs on ebay USA but the shipping is pricey. you're prob best keeping an eye out for a decent 3.91 over here off a sport...

US spec E30 M3s had 4.10 medium case LSDs, I want one
Not in E30s any more
I gave up looking for a 4.10. I think I've seen one for sale on here in the last year and it was gone in about 5 seconds. I got a 3.91 for my IS, just received it yesterday
318iS could have an open or LS diff (a 4.10). You can also use a 4.45 but that may be hard for motorways etc i've heard. Puts you into too much revvs to cruise. But you'll quite often find 4.10s on 316i/318i iirc.

Uni is killing the project.
Ye, but apparently slippers where an optional extra on most of the range (bar like the 316 chromie etc...iirc).aj_mckay wrote:I'd be surprised if they were slippers though...!NayC wrote:you'll quite often find 4.10s on 316i/318i iirc.
I know the 318i Autos had the 4.45 which is what i'll be after. But i'd really be wanting to find a slipper on of them..

Not totally direct replacement..... The iS uses the small case diff and the Sport is large case.fuzzy wrote:physically yes it is a direct replacement.Andy_roo wrote:Is a 325 sport a direct replacement?
or something else..................
Prop needs length adjusted - which means dropping the exhaust.

4 pot tourings with auto boxes have 4.45s, manuals have 4.27s (I thinkmaxfield wrote:316i Touring had 4.45 IIRC.

If you could make 6250 rpm in top that would be 140 mph but the engine isnt powerful enough to redline in top.magpie wrote:what top end would you get from an evolve chipped IS with a piperx pan filter
and a 3.91 lsd????
