Depending on what box it comes with, manual £2,000 to £3,000 and atuo a bit less, but that will not have been abused.
Defo goos cars to have, i had mine back in the early ninties, and loved it, but sold it after a couple of years and regretted it still to this day.

Thanks Mate
Used my uncles one for a few weeks and loved it. I will be selling a mint E21 , 323i in the near future and was thinking of getting an M535i, I am tempted to go for the manual , not dog-leg box, just ordinary 5-speed (if they make one ). Do you think they are a better drive in manual for everyday use ?
Where's best place to find a good one ?
Cheers Paul

I've got an e21 to pick up for an m30 conversion soon to go with my m30 cab.Best place to find a m535 is classic cars of the 5 fforum. www.bmw5.co.uk/
Normally good ones there.

I had an auto which was a good cruising machine on the motorway, but a bit slow of the mark, depends on what you want to go for

Dogleg sports box only as a manual, IIRC. No overdrive boxes, but LSD.

Actually they are available with dog leg close ratio or standard H gate overdrive boxes all with LSD. :D

There is a really nice auto one on Pistonheads which used to belong to a zoner...

They are great cars i have had loads of them they are available in standard H gate patern gearboxes, sports auto boxes and Dog leg close ratio gearboxes and they all come standard with a LSD. Currently have a m535i with a dogleg gearbox which breaking as they do rot a lot :-x

The one on pistonheads is crying out for a manual conversion :)

They come in all manner of guises. The overdrive, sport and switchable autos are all available and whilst most have sports seats, 'comfort' (fat arse) seats were optional. Chrome or dechrome.
The rarer version is the 535iSE. These had standard steel bumpers and no bodykit although they still had the M535i plastic arch spats and the M535i Metric 'M' alloy wheels and TRX's. These had the same seat/gearbox/dechrome options but very few were sold. They used the same LSD and Bilstein suspension as the full fat version. I've seen a couple of original 535iSE's that state M535i on the V5.

Autos are still pretty brisk, but the dogleg manuals are really bloody nippy.

I had one about 10ish years ago. It was an amazing car, about same 0-60 as 325i sport. Great drifting machines if your into that. Places that I know rust are front wings and sunroof panel. Mine was red with tan cloth. My mate had a black with black leather dog leg box and electric rear blind (i think its a rare option?). I know it was fully loaded as his one was the car autoexpress used for there review back in the day. He stuck same fat rims off a 850i, looked amazing. Because of the grip pulling out on a roundabout on that red grippy stuff he managed the tear the prop like a coke can. Now if a car can do that it has to be good! :D Oh laying here remembering it makes me want another.

P.S I have no idea on the prices.

Prices varie depending on what spec and mileage and colour you are after tbh
Mine has dogleg / lsd , Aircon , Full electrics etc
Full m5 suspension and uprated brakes apart from that the only modification except the black grill is the style 32 alloys which look the nuts on the e28
Mine maybe up for sale soon so keep an eye out on http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/ :D
