when i start my 320i from cold...for a while there is a whiff of petrol which goes once warmed and up to running temp...hav had this before with my last 320i...bexley said it could be fuel regulator leak..or somewhere near the intake..or injectors...
who has had this trouble before???

I had this problem with my 320i.
The fuel pipe into the fuel pressure regulator was perished and leaking fuel, but as soon as you turn the engine off, it evaporates and you don't know where the leak is coming from.
It is the cylindrical 'dump-valve' shaped black thing on top of the engine, the same end as the rad.
have a check there.

I've got this on my IS. Replaced the pipe going from fuel filter to first metal part of the injector rail. Went away for a while now it's back... doh! Think it might be the pipe between said metal pipe and actual injector rail

i just replaced those on my IS too, two small rubber sections of pipe - only leaked when it was very cold.
the fuel drips onto the starter solenoid (well mine did!)
all the inlet manifold has to come off - its not too difficult apart from all the hoses - which youll find most of the breather hoses have perished too - i kinda binned quite a lot of hose heh

my exact problem! Guess I'll order a load of hoses before I sort mine out. Wanted to replace most of them anyway...markwd wrote:i just replaced those on my IS too, two small rubber sections of pipe - only leaked when it was very cold.

Had the same problem on my GSI as well!
The end of the fuel feed hose to the inlet had perished a little allowing it to slowly drop fuel on to the hot manifold creating a strong smell.
I'll probably change these hoses when I get a 325 just to be safe.
