Ive been offered a 3.0 E36 M3 for not alot of money. The trouble is im only 19yo with 1 years NCB which is making finding an insurance company a huge problem. ive not had anyone refuse to quote me yet but the cheapest quote i have had is 6K . I live in Jersey so ive tried all the local companys with not much luck, I have also tried Adrian Flux and they are the cheapest so far at 6K. Does anyone else know of any other companys i could try?

Would really like to be able to get this car. its at a price i cant refuse. even if it had to sit on the drive months till im 20 im still going to buy it.

Any help apreciated

Cheers

The E36 M3 is one of the most expensive cars to insure. I don't think you will get any reasonable quotes at 19.

By one of do you mean out of BMW's or cars in general? might get a quote for an E46 just to see what it comes back as. will be annoyed if its cheaper cause i cant afford and e46 m3 at this current moment in time.

Lol good luck e36 m3's are a nightmare to insure and my mate @25 with loads of NCB could only get 950 odd FC on his E46 M3

i was offered an aston martin for very little money when i was 17 couldn't insure it and ultimately that was a good thing. The reality is this is too much car for your average 19 year old so let it go.

19 + e36 m3 = disaster. Hence the quotes you are getting off insurance companies. Its very tempting I am sure, but I bet the m3 is cheap for a reason.

At 22 with an inpecceble driving record, touch wood, an e36 m3 was around the grand mark still.

There are other cars that are nearly as quick with a lower insurance banding such as a Audi B5 s4. 2.7 twin turbo. The early 100 s4 is very cheap on insurance, but its a bit heavy. Chip one of those two cars and it'll d!ck a 3.0 m3.

Doesn't look like im going to have much luck with UK companys then. Your insurance seems to be so much more expensive than it is over here in Jersey. For my 1991 325i sport i was paying £825 fully comp just turned 18. now at 19 with a years NCB on it im paying £575.

Thw M3 is cheap for a reason. it needs a new rear quarter window and a clutch, plus its been crashed before and has been on the Jig. but for the money he wants for it i think anyone would snap it up. i might still buy it just to make a profit on it.

You say the 2.7 bi-turbo S4 is a lower insurance group banding? the S4 is group 20, where as the M3 is group 19. or is it cause about 5 trillion M3's have wrapped themselves sideways round tree's? Im very fond of the B5 S4 my mate has one that has hybrid RS4 turbos running 475hp. with massive porsche brakes all round. goes like a rocket but i know if i got an S4 id allways be pissed off that it didn't go and stop aswell as his one. Meh its swings an round a bouts i suppose. Think im just going to have to be a little bit more patient and sit it out.

The early 100 s4 was a cheap car to insure, and I presumed the later one was as well. The group banding doesn't always mean something is cheaper or more expensive. THe 100 s4 was group 16, and and e30 325i was 15. Trying to insure the e30 at 19 was double the £550 they wanted for the s4. Its about percieved risk sometimes and the type of owners who buy M3's etc. Do some quotes on the later TT s4 and see what you come back with.

All cars will 'feel' slow against a 475bhp s4, especially a NA one such as the m3 as there will be no 'kick' in the back at 3-4k.

The M3 youre on about sounds like a ragged Sh*tter clinging on for dear life.......You will have nothing but prfoblems with it and parts etc are expensive and theres fuel aswell........Ive been there mate and wanted one myself but common sence kicked in.
Go and buy an e30 325i sport.........Even if its a shite sport it will be a damn site easier to work on and afford parts for than a half dead e36 M3.

Try competition car insurance as a track day car. Scott managed to get a quote on his with the cage declared and it came to a little over 900quid. Your driving record wont help it tbh either.

Unless its under the 2k mark i would leave it alone, theyre a lot of hassle, parts are expensive and theyre not very well put together compared to most other BM's. Fuel economy was 15mpg round Jersey when driving carefully and the lack of 98ron over here doesnt help and it never ran like when i took it away and was able to fill it with something like V Power. Also, you'l have problems flogging it for a profit in the current market especially if it has been jigged. People will look for excuses no matter how well it been repaired.

Overall I'm glad i got rid of mine, its only once its gone that you realise your happier without it. Great for racing but it was the last of the M cars that i will ever buy. Unless you have endless amount of cash theres a lot more smiles per pound to be had in cheaper machinery

It is a little bit shitty. but nothing that a litte bit of TLC wouldnt sort out. but its really cheap like stupidly cheap but its cause the guy is a fuck up. And ive already got a e30 325 sport had it for over a year.

Martin do you what mileage dingle put down for on his quote? will ring them up this afternoon. i know there expensive to own but its well cheap and wont be driving it till next year when the sport is all done etc.

Not sure what mileage limit he had, but then i remember they didnt ask him what mileage the car had on it to begin with just like they didnt when i insured the rally car so theres not way they could have enforced it anyway lol

Don't tell me you wanted to pay £250 TPFT right??
Plus the M3 is probably worth less than your insurance quote. False economy.

errr no! id pay upto £1600 to insure it. i dont expect to get stupidly cheap insurance on it i just dont want to pay 6K. I hate it when people say paying more than the car is worth in insurance is a false economy. Generally its is if your like 35 with 2 kids and a mortgage. But im 19 and have bugger all else to spend my money on except my cars. so why not pay a bit over the odds to insure a car i dreamed of owning when i was like 14.

Still won't be cheap as they go of the youngest driver, but new civic will allow you to build up your bonus.

Yeah got an quote from NIG through adrian flux. still quoted 3k. managed to get it as low as 1700 quid now. shows what a bit of shopping around will do. think im going to persuade my dad to put me under his name for 6 months. then see if i can get it a bit cheaper when im 20.

Have you tried a limited milage quote too, as this drops your premium a bit more.Mines on 3000 miles per year, but i rarely cover 300 in a year as its normally sitting on my drive.
