Thanks Dan,I will be on to that Monday.DanThe wrote:You should be using E34 525i rubber mounts at least, studs in the outside holes on the subframe. The M50 starter is no good for the M20 flywheel, M20 starter goes straight in

Little update,I have a futher 5 or 6 photos.I have fitted a Z3 1.9 gearstick, seen here alongside(left) the standard M40 item that came with the gearbox.I had aproblem getting the stick in the centre of the hole in the tunnel, also shown (from the right) is a Z3 gearlever mounting bracket, the one that came with the 'box and a 320 item I bought from Spadge. This last one puts the stick within a quarter inch of centre. The Z3 stick has 'shortened' the shift nicely, but not as 'short' as the ebay American gadget that I have on the 2.7,so I am hoping to cut down on the moans from the wife.Youth is wasted on the young.

Rear underside,I have fitted 7 new bushes,a pair of standard rubber axle carrier ones and poly trailing arm(4) and poly diff bush.New rear brakes, discs, hand brake shoes and pads. New rear dampers,M-tec gas ones from GSF.Diff is a small case 3.35,from a 324d,will it survive the M50? Youth is wasted on the young.

O/S rear inner wing. The third patch of rust found... the breather pipe cover had rotted almost completly away,so I had ordered a new one.Came to fit it and found that the half icecream cone shaped bit at the forward(R/H in photo) end had rotted as well, and there was a hole in the box section behind, directly over the rear spring seat.. Youth is wasted on the young.

My wife will be driving the car, just towing it home was an ample demonstation, she kept trying to position it with the driver's seat alongside the white line...When we came up the slip road off the M180 to turn right onto the A15 I was convinced I would need a new R/H side, she got that close to the armco..zaust wrote:

Just realized I have not done you devients an update...you will be thinking I have given up.... this shows the wiper motor mounting that I have had to add,the LHD version has only a lower mount and uses the wiper spindle support for the upper. My current problem here is that the R/H spindle is belting seven bells out of the heater blower case and also flexing the scuttle.I think(hope!!) that this is because the wiper motor has lots of lpay in it's gearbox.Of course the LHD one is mirror image so I have sorced another motor from a zoner trader, still waiting for it if you are reading this.... Wish I could find out how to bulk upload mor than one piccie..bear with me,we move onto the exhaust next... also this week I have built up the inlet manifold, the throttle cable needs careful routing to reach the throttle body, and I now have a working starter motor Youth is wasted on the young.

Exhaust manifold/downpipe...the job I was least looking forward too.Photo shows at the top a set of E36 328 manifolds, this is the accepted starting point. The complete set at the bottom of the shot are well travelled... Beemerlad aquirred them with his 'conversion kit',but the jammy sod has now picked up a lovely S50 bunch of bananas manifold,so has kindly passed on the ordinary one to me.As Beemerlad has posted, they do not fit very well and the fabrication is of a poor quality.Would you belive that the out pipe to down pipe join is smoothed out with P40? The front pipe fitted after a small ajustment at the manifold/downpipe join(that's how I found the P40) it's not quite right under the car, yet, but I have some ideas to get it right. The rear pipe is also a poor fit and the manifold welding is worse than my welding....Youth is wasted on the young.

And here is the offensive item in all it's glory.. my attempt is on the left BTW.. there is so much weld blobbed on the righthand one that some flange holes would not take a nut. But at least this pair of downpipes gave me a three dimension view of what I needed to make, many thanks,Lee!! That is as far as the exhaust has got,I have a small ajustment to make to the front one and the downpipe to add to the rear,I have the centre and rear parts of a three piece system on order,so I hope to be in a position to go for a start up next weekend.... I am ignoring my wiring woes at the moment, hoping that waving a magic wand will make them vanish -

Gear linkage bits. Z3 gearlever is the L/H one, standard item alongside.Other bits are a selection of gearstick mounts to show the different lengths, from the left,320(the one I used)316/318 and Z3(!!) last one was ordered from Cheltenham BMW by mistake,I have the matching shift rod as well.If any hairdressers are following this those bits are brand new and for sale, make me an offer!!-
