wheel choice ? any pictures ?

just purchased a lovely 2 owner 325Ise saloon, with manual transmission,
is total straight and original,
but has 14" bbs
i want to upgrade, but not go to far off standard,
i was going to have a go at some 17" alpinas,
but would this look cr&$ on standard ride height, anyone got any pics of a standard saloon in 17" alpinas ?

If you're after genuine Alpinas I don't think they did them in 17", only 16". The 17" ones are replicas...

17" Alpina replica's don't look nice. Go for 15" BBS.

16 Schnitzers if you can get em...BBS if you cant....dont bother with 17's you will need to roll the rear arches and the fronts will probably rub when cornering, plus it will handle like a dog

Get some deep dish 15" BBS reps or original 15" BBS wheels. You'll make the car look sweet without it looking daft with too big a wheel.

Forget that 17/18" replica scrap! Genuine 16" ones are the only way to go if you want alpina's!

I've just been slaughtered for thinking of the Aplina Reps... They're an apparent no go, although loads of people have got them.

15" BBS for the standard look anyday. Only a touch better that the 14" BBS you've got but still give that smarter look.

Otherwise, look for the genuine 16" wheels from either Alpina, Hartage or Schnitzer. They all have the "made for the car" look.

But for standard height car i would definately say 15" BBS. Looks standard and smart that way.

it makes me laugh when i read threads like this. the guy has just asked a straight forward question and everyone does nothing but slag it off and tell him to get wheels that will cost him in the regions of a grand!!!!!!
pina reps look fine mate and good if your on a budget. sorry but i dont have a pic on standard ride height though

i just think people get alot of sh1t about havin them. they are a budget wheel of course. not arguing that, but i think they are fine if you are on a budget. i didnt have any probs with mine. i also think it depends on the way you drive your motor too

the do look good but had a slight wheel wobble at 55mph but never botherd me much, might have just needed balancing but ive heard from a few people that this is normal for them so...

Well to be honest guys, I've never had a problem with mine, no wobbles and the car has been driven pretty hard round the back roads, they were on the car before I got it before you all shout at me, I think they suit it, I will be changing them though as they are too big and I don't want to risk the chance of them hitting my nice newly painted arches when they get done. But anyway, I think they look good and suit the car, here's a couple of pics as it stands just now....

they look ok for a quick glance, but any more than that and theyre very easy to spot as fakes. plus the 'chrome' outer rim is obviously just a thin coating rather than the proper polished alloy of real RSs, the rim profile is wrong, and the centres look cheapo too.

the bbs lm replicas are slightly more acceptable for some reason, i just dislike all reps as they'll never be a patch on the real deal.

Ah i wondered, I did a search for reps earlier but it didn't return much, just a set of HRE 504's which are close. I have been considering a set of Hartge Classics, if I can find any, but still not sure, anyway loads of time to decide.

if i had a mint 325I sport with 45,000 mile on the clock,
i may go for the real deal,

the set on my latest purchase are BBS copies the only logo i have seen is JW Japan so i need to do some looking around - edit JW Japan is the Japanese equivilent of the TUV of BS kite mark, it is a stamp to prove the wheels have passed their quality standards interesting read for those buying stuff from there-- http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde ... opic=66183. I have a real set of BBS RS and these copies (they are both 16 split rims the copies are 8 and the real ones are 7)

There really appears to be very little difference in quality but i will agree with some people above that the replica ones CAN be of inferior quality.... but that said here in Bahrain we have one of the largest Aluminium smelters in the world (per ton) ALBA, and we also have one of the largest wheel casting companies in the world right next door to ALBA, they rough cast aluminium wheels for BBS, BMW, Merc and probabaly most other companies you have heard of, these rough castings are made here cause the aluminium metal can be bought motlen and delivered straight to the casting area (no need to psend money to re-melt the alloy)- so proabaly what you will find is 99.9% of most alloy wheels will be cast in this same manner and then finished at the BBS / ANother / etc factory the only main difference will be the ''original'' manufacturers will spend more time/money on R&D and marketing, but at the end of the day you buy wheels on a budget and for the purpose - if you spend weekends flying round Brand Hatch in a highly modified car then go for real ones, if you drive normally on the public highway then ANY alloy wheels sold in UK will be suitable - the rest is just a matter of taste.
