I had a quick gander but could find much at all.
Is it possible to supercharge an M42? What would this involve as well?
I've heard the 318iS is a hard engine to Turbo, but what would have to be done to do this?
I'm not very knowledgable in this area at all and basically want to know if it is possible and what is needed to do either.
Cheers.

Appletree is currently building another supercharged M42 engine at the moment. Check out his threads..
As for the M42 not being very easy to 'charge, I would imagine that comes from the relatively high compression ratio as standard. Luckily the americans also had the M42 so there are various ways around this.
I would personally love to build a supercharged M42 with an M47 crank, forged pistons and about 300 angry horses. Entirely feasible and would make a fantastic engine, probably about the same weight as an S14 overall.
Check out www.e30tech.com. They 'charge everything over there...

It's not harder to turbo than any other NA motor, you still need all the basic components to turbo an M42 as you do say an M20, but they can't take as much boost reliably stock due to the compression ratio as mentioned above. Reduce it and they're about as strong as any other BMW motor and able to take a fair bit of boosting.
Not in E30s any more

Cool, what engine have you got? Any chance you can give us a few updates as you go along (such as price, parts and work?). I just wanna know whats involved really.

Its an e36 318is lump in an e30.
As I said the charger in a Ph5 mini one from a cooper S paid £150 posted for it which is prob the most you should pay tbh. Not sure what to do about an ECU yet but looking into that
