Lovin the e21 - it really looks cool. I've never been in one but the write ups on them hint they could be ace fun  The sound of the e21 is fab 8)

I'm over in Anglesey on 1st November for a track day so I'll post some footage up afterwards on here.

Any more??

Hmmm, just saw this thread and not sure if I should post pictures of my track car on here... not an E30, not even German... dare I say she's Japanese :o: actually a lot of fun, if a little slow for track days (against all those 7 reps and Scoobies!), however I also compete in hillclimbs and sprints in the 1400-1800cc class. Hence the hot hatch. Anyway, here she is (or was) at a hillclimb earlier this year:
Image
Image

Unfortunately that WAS how she looked, during a very wet & windy test day at Kames Sprint track yesterday I managed to pitch her into a tyre wall  only cosmetic damage but I'm sooooo angry with myself for hurting her! :x

I actually video-ed it all, so I may post up the video of how not to drive in the wet!!!

Hi Jon,

Yeah, she's a 1988 AE92 1.6 16v. Revvy, yes, she goes well for a 20 year old 1600 and was an inexpensive way into motorsport. She's proving to be quite competitive - I've worked on the chassis, suspension and brakes but engine wise she's standard, however she can keep up with most in the class (only the 1800's which have had thousands of £'s flung at 'em are significantly faster). I had planned to cam, chip and tune her over the winter however my wee excursion into the tyre wall on Sunday may have blown the budget!!! :x

Need to find myself a rich sponsor!!!! :D

Anyway, I've posted the video footage on another thread:
http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... 06#1238806
Enjoy!

On the upside, it's only cosmetic, she drives perfectly! Good ol' girl!

Here's my track car.

Pic taken in the pit lane at Spa in June.

It's a Mitsubishi Starion Turbo, that I've spent way to much money on. Behind is MissG's 325i trackday car.

The 205 gearbox is back on. This one is much shorter ratio as well. Imagine you had a 3,64 diff in your 325, then changed it to a 4,27. 8) Thats the sort of difference it has made. Just finished the job at 11.15, and had to take it out for an obligitary test drive. I won't be popular with the neighbours tomorrow, it doesn't do idling quietly :o

Its like a motorbike engine/gearbox combo now, you are constantly in the power band from 2nd at 40mph onwards, right through 3rd, 4th and possibly 5th-not tested! Baring in mind the power band is about 5000-7100rpm. Its great fun. Hope this box doesn't go pop too quickly.

Bitel what are those starions like? Any good? they look like a typical Jap car(short wheelbase and long overhangs) just like our 200sx. It can be amusing at times.

The race car project can be followed here..

http://www.s109494890.websitehome.co.uk ... photos.asp

Neil drove the car at a test day at Brands Last Week, and got some competitive times considering that he had not driven the bmw on the track before and is used the fwd machinery, with more use of the kerbs and braking later (the brakes are quoted as "awesome") he's confident to be at the sharp end in the pbmwc next year.

We are both driving at Snetterton on Friday. - hopefully the weather forecast will improve a little.

What circuit did you use at Ty Mon Lloydie?

I sat my ARDS there last month on the National circuit and your last pic looks like the corner after Peel.... Im sure you didnt have much time to take in the view but wondered what you thought of the circuit?

GP Circuit and I loved it, at home here on the Isle of Man the track is a disused airfied ie Flat and a bit boring in comparison to Trac Mon (anglesey).

Changes i'd make to the 325 track star
Get my diff re-plated or just so it's working would be nice. :-x
The cars set up caused massive understear - really anoying - any ideas?currently running Bilstien sprintline kit shocks & springs, poly bushed all round

See pic

Pleased with...
Standard Brakes, braded hoses 5:1 fluid and EBC yellow stuff pads were really impressive for the money - no complaints
Toyo R888 195/50/15 - were sh@gged at the end so bought some new ones £65 fitted inc vat by the Tyre guy in the van who was there - ace job fella :D

Q; What track next in the North West?? Looking at spring really...

uprated arbs would be a good move. don't cost huge amounts but are supposed to make a big difference, plus each end is adjustable so you can play around till you have a balance you're happy with.

looks like you have huge amounds of roll, so arbs may well help. even if you don't gain any outright grip, you should still be quicker if it's more predictable and adjustable.
cheers,

Your going to need some new wing mirrors as well Lloyd if you keep that up! You'll grind them clean off

I reckon those EBC pads were good for the money winkeye

Reckon an uprated ARB is on the cards and maybe look at your spring rates.

I run 650 fronts and 225 rears on mine. Corners very flat and the last set of tyres wore perfectly. No "fudging" of rubber at all. I have got nearly -4.5 deg of camber on the front as well which helps.

Other half mentioned about going to Anglesey tonight. Saw something about seahorses on the telly and now wants to visit!?

Track looks close to the sea.............

Looks like you have far more grip than the suspension can handle.
I'd suggest something like Gaz Gold with 500/300lb springs.

Man from GAZ suggested a bit higher for my Ledas (EX Leda man at Gaz!) as the 325's push a bit more than the 320/318's.

But suspension is a personal thing so find what suits you (sir)

arbs and stiffer springs can still help.

it looks like it's rolling so far the outer front is rolling into positive camber and overloading the tyre. common wisdom is that a stiffer front increases understeer, but a lot of the time it can actually help shift the balance forwards and reduce understeer.
cheers,

harry

Your setup seems similar to my 325i, except I have Spax suspension (PSX) and Sparco front and rear strut braces - they made a huge difference, much stiffer and more direct.

The camber is also adjusted, although I reckon the geometry is out slightly (I need to get her setup properly). She understeers very slightly, but is mostly neutral and predictable... :D mostly...

Slayed a few big boys on track days. TVR Cerbera comes to mind lol Granted he couldn't drive but still.

It cornered like a fly. I'll buy another one day, but only when I have the money to make it as good as that one.

Thanks :P

Those 1.6 valvers are about 120bhp arn't they? Very useable in a good handling car. I've seen them clinging onto all sorts of badly driven £50k cars.

Our mi16 is along the same sort of lines but with a bit more poke. Really looking forward to trying out this new short ratio box on the first of december.

That's like my wee Corolla - all the time, money & effort has gone into the chassis, suspension and brakes so she goes great through the twisties (she's taken RX8, Ford ST, Cooper S, Morgan +8...) but then with only 120bhp on tap the bigger boys pass her on the straights!
So frustrating: passing the same car 5 times only to be passed again on the main straight! :x

Yeah same here lol good fun though, twisties are more fun than straight lines.

Mine came out with 135bhp on the rollers, with a fucked injector and slipping clutch, so not too bad really. I was more than happy with it anyway :D

Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum. Thought I would share what is going on in my garage. 320i 1989 Needs to be mot'd and ready for a trip to Spa in the summer. Oh dear, please don't laugh too much.... I have less than no money... List of things so far:
-Took rotten bits off
-Welded a couple of patches (lots more to go)
-New dizzy cap and rotor arm
-plugs
-Threw away the knackered brakes
-Ripped out the sunroof and welded a patch in
Thats about it

If anyone knows where I can get a nearside wing, some cheap front brakes, some dirt cheap suspension, rear trailing arms with discs for a conversion and probably some new wheels.....cheap I would be very grateful.

Also our next door neighbours at work make colourful silicone hoses They're called roose motorsport. At present he doesn't make e30 hoses but he said he would make the moulds if anyone is interested. I think he can make pretty much any hose. He made me some hoses for my bike which are ace. Nice guy.

Post on the wanted section and scroll through the for sale section, there's always someone breaking an E30.

Or try the likes of JonB or Pacerpete - they've usually got parts (but as traders need to make a profit so might not be so 'cheap', at least in Pete's case  )
