OK maybe I'm starting to get my heaed around all this stuff A LITTLE (thanks Paul), but if I move my footwell speakers further into the footwell using mdf rings, people will kick them - I know I will, on purpose, when I lose my temper.
So can you buy protective grilles for them?
Speaker grills?

any replacement speakers will come with grills. if you don't have a pair it's worth asking your local ice dealer for a pair - they'll have loads left over on a regular basis where they install new speakers behind factory trims.
thought - you're not trying to improve the sound of the factory giveaway cones are you?

No Paul, I'm not trying to improve the Blaupunkt ones, though I have to say I don't think they're THAT bad... I bought some 2nd-hand Alpines and Sonys off one of the guys on here, but they didn't sound as good as the originals. Now I'm happy that (a) there's nothing wrong with them, (b) I paid very little, so no complaints - I probably just need to spend more time fitting them properly as you say. But maybe cos I bought them 2nd-hand, they didn't have any grills with them.

what is to be done about the bonnet catch does it require spacing to move it out a bit so it would clear the speaker grilles or what?

either spacing (although the glovebox prevents all but small adjustments), relocating or re-shaping. on a simple level it can be cut down. i've managed to fit speakers and rings behind it wihout modding it before though...
