hi guys
anyone took a bbs split rim apart before. i havent, but i want to....
i have a set of bbs split rims, in fair condition. but the laquer on the outer rim has lifted. so i intend to split the rim apart, and just polish up the other bit.
is there anything i should be carfull doing as to when i put them back together? whats the torque settings on the bolts. and should a sealer be used?
simon13, i rememeber you were going to do the same thing with those bbs you had. did you look into this?

I found a useful link on a Golf website.
There is a sequence for tightening and 12-14lb ft I think.
Do a search on gaygle?

u need dunlop sealant of some kind when u fix them back together.
I took them apart by carefully wacking the outer lips off with a rubber mallet. They came off quite easy Jon. Are they 3 piece then?
I used paint stripper on the laquer which did the job, but Dave has these wheels now so he knows some more too!

simon. im not sure if there 2 or 3 piece, its a 5 stud set like c6jon has on his m3.
i was thinking of the paintstriper idea. and then just using a mop and some metal polish.
thanks guys.

If they're the same as mine and John's then they're type 5's, and are 2 piece wheels, I've got the same job to do, so will be watching this thread!jonb wrote:dave, cheers dude.

I very much doubt it, that said, what sizes were the keskins Adam had fitted to his sport? He had his arches flared though iirc?Karan wrote:do u reckon these would get under stock arches on my porject car with m3 running gear:?

in my opinion/experience yes they will (just! - its tight!).. will have to run 215 or 205 rubber thoKaran wrote:do u reckon these would get under stock arches on my porject car with m3 running gear:?
i have 16" BBS rims (et20) with and m3 setup on mine and the tyres are 225/50's and they just about catch (altho they have bent the arches slightly) whats the offset of the type 5's? 20 isnt it?
Im gonna get some 205's for now till i can afford replacement wings (one is slightly rusty the other idiot damaged, still!!) then i'll get them rolled n i reckon it'll be all good
