hey two problems,
1) my m40 engine is sounding very tappety, is there anyway to adjust the tappets or is it a case where they need to be replaced, I´ve checked Haynes and they only mention replacing them not adjusting,
2) my steering is feeling a little wolly, nothing too bad, i´ve felt much worse, but was wondering what is the best and cheapest way to sharpen it up a bit ( i don´t want to go replacing any steering racks for z3 rack). Is putting in poly bushes the best way to go, if so which make have people had good experiences with, and do i just need to concentrat on the front or do the bushes on the back come into lay as well, and do i just replace what is worn or everything no matter what its condition,
Cheers for any replies,
m40 tappets and tightening up steering,

The tappets are self adjusting fella hydraulic
And is a common problem on M40
I used the diesel engine oil trick and is a lot better now!

Engine oils designed to be used in filthy, smelly, cancer causing diesel engines have considerably more detergents in them than oils for petrol cars, in order to deal with the muck produced by these engines.
By using one of these oils in a M40 for a few months, you gently clean out the oilways and the tappets in the engine (rather than the sudden and often harmful cleansing produced by a flushing oil), and hopefully restore the tappets to working order.

Thank you, Mr Brian!
I've used 10-40 Castrol Diesel Oil for 1000 miles and then changed again filter and oil with normal petrol 10-40 Castrol and sound alot better!
