My E30 320i Auto, when I switch on the Airconditioner, the car really slows down. I really hate the air conditioner now.

Ofcourse I dont want to throw the air conditioner out :)

So I drive around mostly without air conditioner ON. Going at high speed it is not possible any way.

Is there any way, I can still use the Air con and use some clever trick to reduce the drag on the engine? My air con is original rotary type.

Will appreciate any input.

TQ/Cheers

Mate also cannot read the article but i dont believe there is any way to solve this problem, the compressor must compress the froen gas sufficiently so that its temperature drops to around 4-5 degrees, this takes a lot of compression and therfore a lot of power. Some A/C units are better then others, such as Toyota compressors (a very popular modification here in the Mid east, but this is cause BM compressors are expensive and toyotas are cheap)

With the exception on only half filling the freon gas which will mean little or no A/C and it will also damage the internal seals in your compressor the only way is to turn it off!

do tell me, which TOYOTA compressor will fit fine in my E30 320i year 88 engine. I dont mind fixing one provided it does not suck all the power in my engine.

thank you Mr. Lee

sorry about the bad article, was working for me, now doesnt seem to work anymore, basically it was a guide to rewiring the aircon, so that it does less work, thus releasing more power, it would also cut out the air con completley under full load

The one i have seen was from a toyota Camry, and additional brackets and pipework had to be done, cheap here but probably cost you a bomb in uk as people seem to think that A/C work is some sort of mysterious science!

if you really are interested i will try to find a picture

Simple physics, I'm afraid. Aircon takes a lot of energy to operate it, and if that energy from the engine is used fot the aircon, then it can't be used to drive the wheels.
It should be possible to arrange things to dump the aircon when you want full power for accelaration, but overall, you don't get something for nothing.
Best solution is not to bolt another aircon pump to your engine, but to bolt another engine (325) to your pump.
