I'd never use a BMW jack on anything bar a perfectly flat surface, with no gravel around for at least 3 miles, shielded from any wind by a bubble. They just look like extremely temperamental things...
Not in E30s any more :(

Not E30 related but this has evoked some memories i,d rather had stayed buried,
Back in the day,s i was seeing a girl from one of the Channel Isles. Flew out one Friday evening, and had a great
weekend. Sunday dinnertime there was some live football being shown at a local pup. She did,nt fancy it, so strolled off on my jack. Came back 5hrs later to a very cold dinner and an even frostier reception.
Had a very heated row and spent the evening in silence. Monday morning , time to fly back. She runs me to the airport, as i bent down to kiss her goodbye, my head slams into the edge of the roof. As i stand there with claret
streaming into my eyes and suffering from double vision, i glance across at her, and she,s sat there stony faced, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel. It was at this point that i decided it was probably over.

OUCH. Feel for you. Which bit was on your hands?

I wouldn't worry with a standard height E30 - I can fit under one easily if its not been lowered. It'd still be damned scary to see one heading towards me after falling off a jack, but I doubt it'd make contact!
Whereas my car I can only just crawl from one side to the other with it on axle stands!
I used the BMW jack to support my fuel tank when removing it. I also keep it for removing wheels, saves carrying a trolly jack around, but thats it.
