So last Friday my mate Mike and I jumped in his E30 M3 and headed for the Nordschleife - the third trip this year for him and the car, and my second. We were joined by four other friends, in a Porsche 968CS and a Vauxhall VX220 Turbo. Got to the 'ring on Friday night, stayed at Burgstube - great little hotel about half a mile from the track entrance (and right next to Nurburg castle) run by an english chap, his girlfriend and his mate - who just happens to be the unofficial motorbike lap record holder, with a 7:17 bridge-to-gantry. Crazy...

Anyway, had a fantastic three days of lapping in glorious weather. Track was very busy, with a few bits of exotica turning up (Gallardos, two F430 Scuderias, several R8s, the usual 10000 Porsche, a Techart GT Street, etc). Best of all, in my opinion, was an astonishing E30 M3 owned by a French guy. He was running an M5 3.8 complete with an enormous turbocharger - 864bhp peak!

All three cars had spins - ours was the only one not self-induced, when we got hit from behind just as we were at the apex of Aremberg (pretty much the only corner with any sort of gravel trap!). E46 M3 tapped us on the rear corner and span us out - no damage to Mike's M3 apart from a scuffed bumper as he skillfully kept us out of the Armco, but the E46 went in and was probably a write off. The driver told us his brake pedal had gone to the floor...not surprising, given that when we checked there were no rear pads and the fronts were down to being wafer thin!

Returned home in the middle of the night on Tuesday. Already planning the next trip for Easter next year! Some pics of the adventure below...

Cool pics. Scary about the e46 ramming you  Does his insurance pay out for the scuff on the bumper as its a toll road? Or did you sort it out there and then?

We sorted it out there - he had to pay 900 euros for the barrier he hit, plus towing us out of the gravel, plus recovering his car. He then gave us 300 euros for the bumper - which is just above what it'll cost to get repaired properly. Could've been much, much worse!

Fair play to him sorting it out there and then, didn't look like an English car as it had a white rear number plate. He must have been following close to get into that situation. :-x

He is £2000 out of pocket now, before his own car gets the inevitable insurance job... an expensive weekend

He was Irish...seemed fairly well off too, apparently he has a prestige car showroom - the E46 M3 was from there, as was the McMerc SLR that was with his party! He wasn't that close behind - if he'd been that close, we'd have let him through - he just arrived in the braking zone and had nothing! Amazing how irresponsible some people can be when it comes to track-preparing cars...

Some great pics there, really like the misty morning one. It really is such an incredibly scenic area and probably looks best in Autumn too.

That 800bhp m3 is a bit of a car park queen I think, appeared to spend all day sitting in the carpark when I was there in August this year.

The Paddy in the E46 is clearly a tosser, shame he had to go via your mates M3 on his detour into the armco.

Brilliant photo's there. As said very lucky about the whole collision incident, at least he had the money to cough up. It could have been alot worse and been some pennyless scummer in a shed! 8O

Cant wait to go back next year!
