Couple of things, there...tlee wrote:I've asked about the 320is because I'm after a new road car (see my wanted thread). There are two up for sale at the moment that are both in the £6K area. I don't care for the 'classic rarity' aspect of the car. I'm after something that's clean and solid; usable on my very short commute and wicked on track. I'm thinking of buying something like Nick Stoner's 320 (clean and solid) and having an engine built for it. It would come in cheaper than the 320is and, hopefully, faster! Well, that's my thoughts but I'm open to suggestion.
1) A decent S14 motor will cost £2.5K+ even with little/no history. A fresh build will cost you £3.5K+ on top of the cost of the motor! So £6k for a complete MTech car is cheap enough...Bearing in mind the originality factor will keep it's value.
2) While an S14 equipped E30 is a perfectly usable daily drive, the engine needs to warm up fully to both ensure rebuilds (with those expensive parts) aren't needed too often and also to allow you to benefit from the power...They really shouldn't be revved over 3.5K rpm until fully warm...
10miles or so, at least.

All 320iS's used 4stud, 51mm strut Mtech suspension, Getrag 265 5 speed "dog leg" gearbox, an LSD (3.25 ratio i think?) and ABS.
2 drs had the Mtech two body kit, 4 drs had no kit.

This one has been for sale for a very long time (if it is still for sale) and i think it's dropped £500 in price too. I even enquired about this one when i was looking for another turd but thought against the colour/interior combination as imo it looks a little dull for a 320is, Mr Grey style but a set of black leather sport seats would sort it out no end...
I've never seen the car in person, it could be a good one but i cannot understand why it's still available if it is (been advertised for about a year)
The black one looks
Still they both need viewing and its worth paying that money alone for a low mileage and rust free shell.

I wouldn't, a 190bhp 4 door on bottle tops would scare the fuck out of so many people!
Not in E30s any more
I'm pretty sure the 4drs had 14" BBS as standard and the 2drs 15" BBS.
in the bmw car club mag they had a bit saying the have a deal with bmw motorsport so you can get all the parts for racing the e30 m3 . So a new s14 is very possible

If I were to go down the avenue of 320 and built engine, I was thinking something along the lines of an M50 with cams, inlet manifold etc, not a built S14. I was hoping that's where some money could be saved. However, thinking it through I am now of the opinion it will cost near the same as the 320is after you add the exhaust manifold and possibly rear brakes? (I am guessing the standard 320 has the same front brakes as a 325/320is but the rears could be drums?????)Fushion_Julz wrote:Couple of things, there...

I'm meticulous with warming cars so there's no issues there.
