Have any of you fellows used a crank from aM51 tds with standard pistons and M20b20 rods .
I reakon it will give a c/r of 9.77 and 2755 cc or there about
I think all the bearings are the same size ect.
I am just a bit suspect as to why I havent heard anyone else doing it ?

Probably because there are more M52 engines about than diesels

Ah that makes sense but over here we have shit road tax so you pay by cc so big engines are rare .
Also there are a lot of framers how like to run the cars on agri diesel and that makes them more popular

For example my local breaker ( pretty big ) has loads of M50b20 (throwning them out ) M20b20 ,
one M50 B25 ( knackered ) three M51 one M54 b25 one M52 b25
I have to go up the north of ireland ( uk tax applies ) to find the big guns M60 , s54 ect but they are too expensive
they are looking for 1100 sterling for a M60 with loom and ecu .

I am going to try my local breaker tomorrow and see how much I can get the m51 crank for ?

The parts should be cheap, you fnd the M51 in many other vehicles too, landrover's and vauxhall omega's too.

They're old school diesel, not as quiet or economic as the common rail diesels of today, my mates 325td is lucky to get 40mpgs.

There's two in my local scrappy nr Ipswich, if you like i could ask the price for you?

Good luck either way, doing something different is the way forward, break the mold my man!!

I'd suggest the M90 for 2.75ltrs. A fellow zoner used the M62 and found it needed higher gearing to get the best from it. It was running too high and hot, that was on a M20B25 tho, you'll have bigger lungs and a better cardio system with the 24v head.

There is also rotrex or that type of blower, roots is old skool but cheap now, just make sure you don't end up short of the goal you set now, it's soul destroying, I ended up redoing everything I should have done first time round, still hind sight sucks that way.

M90 they are even cheaper than M62s :o:
I was going by eatons ratings that reckon m90 for 3 liter plus , But I guess there 3 liters dont produce much horse power ,
Hind sight is shity like that but you will never make that mistake again ,
Your motor looks well sorted now .
I would turbo before going rotrex route ( dont like the sound of them or the boost curve)
I am looking to add torque low down more than top end grunt thats why I am sc ing
I bet there is a nice hum off your motor

I sent an M50 head to Ireland for less than £40, thats over 30kg, 2.8 crank and rods isnt any heavier

There was a bargain crank on here not long ago
