Nakamichi RD-701, amber illumination that is a bit light compared to the E30 reddish dash, but looks factory.

The new 9880 alpine in amber looks good. Just seen one today.

All the press pics are green, but the amber is dark like the BMW lighting.

I have this headunit (though it's not available new any more) - the buttons light up red, so ideal for an E30

Any old-school Blaupunkt will look okay.

The Becker Traffic Pros still look awesome, sound awesome, have sat nav and ipod connector.

Almost the perfect retro looking head unit, plus they have the reverse illumination so they look great in the E30.

I don't have a pic of mine in the E30, but this is the unit......

How did you secure it as there's no cage?

it was fitted to the car when I bought it, it has been out once to fit the OBC, the spring plates on the side of the unit clip to the fascia.

I had the electrician at work look at it just in case it was loose and rattling about but he said it was fine and it did not need a cage.

The M3 cabrio we have at work for sale has a similar BMW radio factory fitted, that has no cage either.

It looks so good in the dash which is important to me, if it packs up, I will get the BMW CD player from that era which my local dealer says is still available new priced at 300Euro
