Nice cars the 528i's,i ran one for 5 years, most common faults i know of are water pumps, crappy plastic impellar's shear, general coolant issues, pixel's in the dash missing, pretensioners on seat belts causing airbag light to come on,can also be the passenger seat sensor.
Speed sensors can be an issue too, causes allsorts of dash lights to come on and off, also makes the gearbox feel juddery, easily fixed once diagnosed.
I did 40k in mine and never missed a beat, had a few niggly problems with the airbag light,as mentioned above, but never failed to start and is a well built cruiser, with enough poke for everyday driving.

Water pumps!!!
Had one go on me in my 328i sport on the way back from the ring, luckily i noticed within seconds and stopped the car before it went to 3/4 on the gauge. Spent 2 days in aachen
Personally i would change this as soon as i bought one.

In the 328i (which is a lighter body) i achieve about 32 mpg when driving very conservatively.
I probably average 29-30 most of the time and as fuel can be bought for under £1 a litre now its not too bad to run every day.

Real world MPG is around 25-30mpg combined.
Only doing 1800-2000 rpm at 75mph so much better on a run.
Get one,you know you want too!
