im going to do a straight swap in my 318i, as the engine has seen better days, anyone got a guide on how to take the m40 and put it back, and how easy is this?
and one more thing, will i be able to keep the wiring the same and basically drop the new engine in?
cheers
James

Very easy to do, as you've all that empty space around a little four pot.
If the engines are the same, you can unplug all the connectors and leave the wiring in the car. Otherwise unplug the engione loom at the C101 connector beside the fusebox, unplug the ECU under the instrument panel, feed the ECU back thriugh the bulkhead, and remove / fit the engine complete wiyh wiring.
Similarly with the gearbox, either disconnect the prop and gear linkage and take the engine and box out together, or unbolt the gearbox at the bellhousing and leave the gearbox behind.
I would take the two out together, but it depends on what facillities you have.
