2.7 no spark
Moderator: martauto
hi all , put this up in the wrong section b4 i think
bit of background info ,
fitted a 2.7 into a 89 320i ,the 2.7 was originally running on early motronic managment (2 row plug ) ive used the later motronic loom and a chipped 325 ecu(3 row plug ) ,early maf meter and idel control valve ,
tryed to turn it over today , but to no joy . im not getting a spark at the coil ,ive tryed a good spare and still no joy , its got the later tdc and toothed pully
any ideas ?
thanks gareth

The same as any M20 - if the ECU is good, it's getting power where it should, the coil is powered, and the ECU is getting a signal from the CPS, then it will produce sparks, at least at the coil.
Does the fuel pump run when cranking?

If the coil isn't getting power, then the chances are that the ECU isn't being switched on either.
Coil feed (green wire) is direct from the ignition switch, through three plugs and sockets, but no fuses.
Red wire to the ECU is permanent live, same green as above is the switching supply, and red/blue should be live as well when switched on.
Does the main DME relay click when the ignition is switched on?

I think i posted a possibility in your other thread mate
Wanted: Any old component speakers, complete or separate parts, let me know what you got
ok if what i think is the dme relay is wat ive just tested small light green 4 pin relay ? ,there is power from the 12v but its not switching , so if my logic is correct its either
the ecu is duff ,
but ive tryed swapping it so i dont think its that
the ecu isnt getting power ?
or the wire between the ecu and the dme is damaged ?

If I can't fix it I'll f**k it up so bad nobody can!!

If you don't get 12 volts on pin 27 (green wire), with the ignition on, you have a simple wiring fault with (probably) the car loom.
