i know where i can pick up a e36 318is engine(140bhp) and was wondering will it fit the 316i gearbox??

Since no one else has answered, I'll say probably.
Most BMW gearboxes are interchangeable - an E30 325 gearbox fits straight on to the latest M54 engines for example.

thanks at least sum1 has tried to help :D wouldnt there also be alot more torque wid the 316i gearbox and e36 318is engine?

Do you know the age fot the car?

As the later 318is had different clutches, the box will bolt up but there are clearing issues with the fly wheel and starter motor.

On a similar subject, there's a Z3 1.9 in my local scrappy that's had a front ender. It still has the engine in place (well, not in the same place)

My question is this: Will the block and head be a direct replacement for my block and head? Will I be able to just swap over all the ancilliaries, incluing inlet, TB, ECU, PS pump, etc...?
