tech 1 325 sport resto..all done just forgot to update it
Moderator: martauto
Spoke to my mate the painter today, he said that I needed to think what i wanted out of this car, like how long I'm going to keep it etc. After a bit of thought and a few chats i have decided to go for a near full restoration, basically new rear quaters not just arch repairs panals, new inner arches, poss battery tray and i will chop the front parts out where i've welded and get these done. I wont be removing the engine as the engine bay looks sweet so i think in about two or three weeks it'll be off to the body shop. I will be helping out after hours to keep costs down. I will take photos all the way along. I'm going to try and get all the mechanical bits finished asap, not much left to do anyway. Atleast that way i can just rebuild after paint and drive!!!!!!!!!!!! Well that's as long as there are no supprises along the way, so if anyone has any tips please let me no thanks. Danny .
Right quick update, just repaired the wiper motor today using the guide as it had stoped working all together. I opened up the back of the wiper motor and it was just all rust, so i set about cleaning the plate up just to see if it might work again. I used an 80 grit sand paper, after it was clean i regreased and reassembled it and wow! It worked first time on all speeds and intermitant thanks to the man that wrote that guide. Also today I replaced the rubber on the steering joint, which is also a very easy job, just ground the 4 rivets off, split the joint and replaced it with new part from gfs, only £6 plus vat so its been a cheap week. I will update when i have done a bit more, not sure what's next, probably sub frame bushes and trailing arm bushes. I will do the rear wheel bearings aswell, not sure if im going to uprate the rear bushes or go standard. What does everyone think? Whats the difference in cost and who sells them?
Just got some parts from bmw today, 2 new wings, a new bumper center, and bumper corner. I got a new valance from Euro car parts and it all seems to fit really well. I just need to work the gaps a bit and get the bonnet repaired. I think that's the front end sorted, the car is hopefully going to the paint shop in 2 weeks.

I will keep you up dated.

quick update started striping every thing off again .
Rubbing down the bumper witch has been a total pig. I think there must be about 10 layers of paint. Started with nitromores we did 3 layers of this and then did the rest with the da and good old fashion elbow grease still some more to do but thought i would up date you.

Also we stone chiped the wings and front valance.then stipped the carpets out ready for him to reweld the floor . Thats about it for now will keep you updated.

Mtech327, Is that an original Alpina C2 you got there? If it is you're in the same boat as me, Alpina lover.
just a quick up date firstly i have had the floor re welded as every one seemed to have a problem with the way it was done so all cut out and done again

this was all cleaned and resealed.
then we replaced the door and boot with as near to mint as i could find.
then we fitted the wing and door on the offside and set about removing the rear quarter and inner wheel arch

I will be removing the rear panel this week end and then we can start putting this side back together. I am really happy with the way this is going as there have been no big surprises yet any way.
I will keep you updated oh yea got some 15" bbs on there to .

Paul, that's very brave letting the tech 1 get that close to water!!! (in your sig!)
It's been closer than that recently, there's a hole in the bulkhead and water is getting in to the passenger foot well, so carpet is out drying and the car is under a cover at the mo, waiting to be stripped and shipped of to the bodyshop!Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Paul, that's very brave letting the tech 1 get that close to water!!! bottom of page 6 shows what this car will look like naked
i didnt want to comment on this car when i saw the initial repairs but good on you for seeing sense and getting it properly sorted
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.
I have not been down to do any work on the car this week but i thought i would pop up and see Gary and see what was next when i found he had been hard at work with out me .
Fair play to him the rear inner arch is on and there were a few repairs on the inner inner arch got a few phone pics but nothing special

The inner arch repairs will all be filled and painted so it all looks mint even tho it will all be covered by carpet .
Still need to get the back panel off and then the rear quarter can be welded on and then we can make a start on the other side .
Hopefully it will be home in time for christmas .
