hi all ,

bit of background info ,

fitted a 2.7 into a 89 320i ,the 2.7 was originally running on early motronic managment (2 row plug ) ive used the later motronic loom and a chipped 325 ecu(3 row plug ) ,early maf meter and idel control valve ,

tryed to turn it over today , but to no joy . im not getting a spark at the coil ,ive tryed a good spare and still no joy ,

any ideas ?

thanks gareth

yep got the toothed vibration damper of the later engine and the later tdc cranksensor from the 320

had a bit more of a fiddle , swapped the ecus over to see if it was the new ecu . made no difference still no spark at the coil .

going to check the primary and secondary resistance on the coils next see if ive some how got to dead coils :? but i doubt it .

only things i was a bit patchy about when i was fitting the loom was which plug the tdc sensor plugged into and which one the sensor on the plug leads connected to :-x

thanks 4 the input tho

What happens when you connect a fused lead from the battery pos to terminal 15 on the coil?

Iv a feeling i know this one, attached to the underside of the steering column is a white connector block with wiring for the ignition in it. along with the main connector there is a single wire connection that is a complete bar-steward to see, that (i think :o: ) feeds the ecu when the ignition is on So, if its become dis-lodged ul get no spark etc

HTH :)
Wanted: Any old component speakers, complete or separate parts, let me know what you got :D

I would think that rules out a wiring issue in the low tension side, then. I would suspect that the ECU may be the culprit, have you a spare you can swap in?

If connecting the battery to the coil + does anything different than just turning the ignition on, then a wiring fault is exactly what you have!
