What is peoples opinion on having a LPG conversion on a 325 sport? Will it devalue it as it wont be standard any more?

I'm not sure it'd de-value it necessarily but it might limit the number of people it will appeal to if you choose to sell it on - some people wouldn't want it! But then on the flip side, it will make it more appealing to some people!! I know it wouldn't put me off...

Double edged sword in my opinion. If it were me thinking of doing it to my sport and had a good reason to do so I'd do it!!! I may think about getting it done by a pro though so you get all the certificates etc. but maybe you're handy with the spanners?

I would say it would de value it. People would be very wary of the conversion being done and the fact majour modifcations would be done to the car and the fact you lose your boot would put alot of people off.

If you get it certified then there’s no reason for anyone to be worried and the modifications are hardly major, I think I drilled 4 holes in total 3 for tank mounting and one to shuffle the airbox forwards for the backfire valve. add to that a couple of basic alluminium brackets and thats it.

Also with the price of fuel these days and everyone being skint, LPG at 50.9p/litre sounds pretty attractive and many people are now willing to pay a bit more for a LPG converted car”¦ Admittedly nowhere near as much more as a professional conversion would cost though.

I’ve lost about an inch, maybe a little more of boot depth by using the wrong size tank, its 2nd hand and close enough. With the correct size tank the boot floor is raised by only a few mm which your not really going to notice, the downside being the lack of a spare tyre, I’ve had 3 punctures in 10 years so it’s no big loss and if you consider that a lot of newer cars don’t have a spare then it’s even less of a concern, newer cars that don’t have Run-Flat tyres have a can of tyre weld instead, which is now what I carry in one of the touring’s storage bins”¦”¦ For a long-range run the spare is slung in a bin bag and carried in the boot, just in case.

Saying all that though, there are some on here who say you should keep a sport exactly as it left the factory, LPG can be invisible from outside if the filler is hidden away and is better for the engine than petrol, so its upto you.

Personally it would,nt put me off any car. Provided it was a well installed conversion, it could only be an extra
attraction imho.

I'd say its a plus, sports are mechanically identical to other E30s so it wouldn't be a major crime to do a good conversion.

I would take into consideration how good the car was.........if it is mint and original,i would not do it.

I'd definately LPG one.

Originality is one thing, drilling a few small holes into a 325i Sport isn't a crime, £1.10 a litre for petrol is far worse than LPGing a car.

I wouldn't LPG an M3 or M5, but anything else is fair game really.

I also wouldn't pay more than a couple of hundred quid more for a 325i Sport than I would for a 'non-sport' 325i with the right bits on, so I'm probably a bit of a heretic to some. I'd rather have a well sorted 335 or 340 touring than a Sport anyway.

+1 If it's not 100% original & mint, then LPG it IMO.

It's all easily removable when you want to sell it, apart from a few bolt holes.
Anyone who knows anything about LPG cars will appreciate the greatly reduced engine wear.

I've got a mate with a 1.8 focus that has done 114k and it looks brand new when you take the rocker off. it is a much cleaner burning fuel, just take a look at the engine oil at a service interval, it looks almost like its just been put in if mostly run on lpg.

Good idea as said but if the car is one of the 5k+ jobbies, then maybe not.

even if it does de-value the car, which i can only see if it's properly mint / low mileage / original etc, how much will you have saved on fuel before you come to sell it?

if it's a timewarp minty classic that never leaves the garage, don't do it. otherwise, get LPG on there and enjoy the thing before the oil dries up! :D
